Abstract

The present invention provides an ink set including: an ink composition including a pigment, polymer particles having an ethylene oxide chain in a side chain of the polymer, and a water-soluble polymerizable compound that has an ethylene oxide chain and that is polymerized by active energy rays; and a treating liquid including an aggregating agent that aggregates ingredients in the ink composition.

Claims (17)

1. An ink set comprising:

an ink composition comprising a pigment, polymer particles comprising a polymer having an ethylene oxide chain in a side chain of the polymer, and a water-soluble polymerizable compound that has an ethylene oxide chain and that is polymerized by active energy rays; and

a treating liquid comprising an aggregating agent that aggregates ingredients in the ink composition.

2. The ink set according to claim 1 , wherein a proportion of the ethylene oxide chain in the polymer particles is from 1% by mass to 15% by mass relative to a total mass of the polymer.

3. The ink set according to claim 1 , wherein the pigment is a water-dispersible pigment, at least one portion of a surface of which is covered with a polymer dispersing agent.

4. The ink set according to claim 3 , wherein the polymer dispersing agent has a carboxyl group.

5. The ink set according to claim 1 , wherein the aggregating agent is an organic acid.

6. The ink set according to claim 1 , wherein the aggregating agent is a divalent or higher-valent organic acid.

7. The ink set according to claim 3 , wherein the polymer dispersing agent has an acid value of 130 mgKOH/g or lower.

8. The ink set according to claim 1 , wherein the polymer particles are self-dispersing polymer particles having an acid value of 70 mgKOH/g or lower.

9. The ink set according to claim 1 , wherein the polymerizable compound is a nonionic compound.

10. The ink set according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the ink composition or the treatment liquid further contains an initiator that initiates polymerization of the polymerizable compound with active energy rays.

11. An image forming method comprising:

applying an ink composition comprising a pigment, polymer particles comprising a polymer having an ethylene oxide chain in a side chain of the polymer, and a water-soluble polymerizable compound that has an ethylene oxide chain and that is polymerized with active energy rays, to a recording medium by an inkjet method; and

applying a treatment liquid comprising an aggregating agent that aggregates ingredients in the ink composition, to the recording medium.

12. The image forming method according to claim 11 , wherein a proportion of the ethylene oxide chain in the polymer particles is from 1% by mass to 15% by mass relative to a total mass of the polymer.

13. The image forming method according to claim 11 , wherein the recording medium is a coated paper comprising a base paper and a coat layer comprising an inorganic pigment.
