Abstract

A system for producing combustible biomaterial is described. The system includes: (i) a lignocellulose rupturing device for rupturing lignocellulose in biomass to produce a ruptured biomass material, the ruptured biomass material having an inorganic material; (ii) a washing subassembly designed to wash the ruptured biomass material having said inorganic material with a solvent and produce an inorganic-material-enriched solvent and an inorganic-material-depleted ruptured biomass; and (iii) a pyrolyzing subassembly for pyrolyzing the inorganic-material-depleted ruptured biomass to produce a combustible biomaterial.

Claims (26)

1 . A system for producing combustible biomaterial, comprising:

a lignocellulose rupturing device for rupturing lignocellulose in biomass to produce a ruptured biomass material, said ruptured biomass material having a inorganic material;

a washing subassembly designed to wash said ruptured biomass material having a inorganic material with a solvent and produce a inorganic-material-enriched solvent and a inorganic-material-depleted ruptured biomass;

a pyrolyzing subassembly for pyrolyzing said inorganic-material-depleted ruptured biomass to produce a combustible biomaterial.

2 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a soaking chamber for soaking biomass in a solvent to produce soaked biomass; and

a first connection for conveying said soaked biomass to said washing subassembly.

3 . The system of 1 , further comprising a densifier that is designed to densify said combustible biomaterial to produce biocoal.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein said densifier is a pelletizer designed to produce biocoal pellets.

5 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a drying chamber designed to dry said inorganic-material-depleted ruptured biomass and produce dried-inorganic-material-depleted ruptured biomass; and

a second connection for conveying inorganic-material-depleted ruptured biomass from said washing subassembly to said drying chamber.

6 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a third connection for conveying said dried-inorganic-material-depleted ruptured biomass to said pyrolyzing subassembly.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said pyrolyzing subassembly configured to operate in absence of oxygen.

8 . A biomass washing sub-assembly, comprising:

a plurality of bins, each of which is designed to hold a single discrete amount of biomass;

a solvent dispenser for dispensing solvent at a location from where said solvent washes a first discrete amount of biomass when said first discrete amount of biomass is inside a first of said plurality of bins, to produce a first effluent stream;

a first pump for pumping said first effluent stream to a location from where said first effluent stream washes a second discrete amount of biomass when said second discrete amount of biomass is inside a second of said plurality of bins, to produce a second effluent stream.

9 . The biomass washing sub-assembly of claim 8 , further comprising a conveyer belt that is designed to advance said plurality of bins after concluding washing of at least one of said discrete amount of biomass contained inside one of said plurality of bins.

10 . The biomass washing sub-assembly of claim 8 , further comprising a plurality of sieves, each of which is located below one of said plurality of bins or fitted to bottom of said one of said plurality of bins.

11 . The biomass washing sub-assembly of claim 8 , further comprising a plurality of collection chambers, each of which is disposed below one of said plurality of bins and each of which is designed to collect an effluent stream produced from washing of said single discrete amount of biomass.

12 . The biomass washing sub-assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a plurality of heaters which are located below some of said plurality of collection chambers, and each of said plurality of heaters designed to heat said effluent stream produced from washing of said single discrete amount of biomass.

13 . The biomass washing sub-assembly of claim 8 , wherein said solvent dispenser is a spray.

14 . The biomass washing sub-assembly of claim 8 , wherein an interior of each of said bins is coated with an acid resistant material.

15 . The biomass-washing sub-assembly of claim 8 , further comprising a first effluent dispenser connected to said first pump and configured to dispense said first effluent stream.

16 . The system of claim 1 where all steps are performed in a single chamber or apparatus.
