System and method for comparing documents
The present invention relates to a system and a method for comparing information contained on at least two documents belonging to an entity. The present invention includes at least one device configured to receive information from at least one first document and at least one second document; then, compare at least one first document information and at least one second document information; and determine whether at least one second document contains at least one first document information. The present invention then outputs a result of whether the at least one second document contains at least one first document information.
1. A system for comparing documents, the system comprising
at least one document reader configured to read information from a first document and a second document, wherein the first and second documents are different types of documents that are carried by an individual; and
a processor having access to the information read from the first and second document and configured to execute instructions stored in a memory to:
identify common fields between the first and second documents, wherein the common fields in each of the first and second documents includes information obtained by the at least one document reader;
compare the information from the common fields in the first document with the information from the common fields in the second document;
based upon the comparison of the information from the common fields from the first and second documents, determine whether the information from the common fields in the first document is substantially identical to the information from the common fields in the second document;
if the information from the common fields is substantially identical, providing an indication that the first document matches the second document; and
if the information from the common fields is not substantially identical, providing an indication that the first document does not match the second document.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the first document and the second document are selected from the group consisting of: a driver's license, a passport, a credit card, a benefit card, a military identification, a government issued identification, a non-government issued identification, and a bank card.
3. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a display coupled to said processor, wherein the display provides an output indicative of whether the first document matches the second document or whether the first document does not match the second document.
4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute instructions to cause the information from the common fields that is substantially identical to be presented on the display to a system operator.
5. The system of claim 3 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute instructions to cause the information from the common fields that is not substantially identical to be presented on the display to a system operator.
6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one document reader is configured to obtain information from a magnetic stripe, and wherein at least one of the first and second documents includes a magnetic stripe.
7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one document reader is configured to obtain information from a bar code, and wherein at least one of the first and second documents includes a bar code.
8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one document reader is configured to obtain information from a smart card, and wherein at least one of the first and second documents includes a smart card.
9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one document reader is configured to obtain information from a machine readable zone, and wherein at least one of the first and second documents includes a machine readable zone.
10. A computer-implemented method for comparing documents, the method performed by a processor executing instructions stored in a memory, the method comprising:
receiving from a document reader information obtained from a first physical document and a second physical document, the first and second physical documents being different types of documents that are carried by an individual;
identifying common fields between the first and second physical documents, wherein the common fields in each of the first and second physical documents include information obtained by the document reader;
comparing the information from the common fields in the first physical document with the information from the common fields in the second physical document; and
based upon the comparison of the information from the common fields from the first and second physical documents, determining whether the information from the common fields in the first physical document is substantially identical to the information from the common fields in the second physical document, and,
if the information from the common fields is substantially identical, displaying an indication that the first physical document matches the second physical document; and
if the information from the common fields is not substantially identical, displaying an indication that the first physical document does not match the second physical document.
11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising displaying the information from the common fields that is substantially identical.
12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising displaying the information from the common fields that is not substantially identical.
13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first physical document and the second physical document are selected from the group consisting of: a driver's license, a passport, a credit card, a benefit card, a military identification, a government issued identification, a non-government issued identification, and a bank card.
14. The method of claim 10 , wherein at least some of the information obtained from the first physical document and the second physical document is obtained from a magnetic stripe.
15. The method of claim 10 , wherein at least some of the information obtained from the first physical document and the second physical document is obtained from a bar code.
16. The method of claim 10 , wherein at least some of the information obtained from the first physical document and the second physical document is obtained from a smart card.
17. The method of claim 10 , wherein at least some of the information obtained from the first physical document and the second physical document is obtained from a machine readable zone.
18. The method of claim 10 , wherein the common field is one of an individual's identification characteristics and an individual's biometric parameters.
19. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium encoded with computer-executable instructions to cause a processor to execute a method to compare a first physical document and a second physical document, the method comprising:
receiving from a document reader information obtained from a first physical document and a second physical document, the first and second physical documents being different types of documents that are carried by an individual;
identifying common fields between the first and second physical documents, wherein the common fields in each of the first and second physical documents include information obtained by the document reader;
comparing the information from the common fields in the first physical document with the information from the common fields in the second physical document; and
based upon the comparison of the information from the common fields from the first and second physical documents, determining whether the information from the common fields in the first physical document is substantially identical to the information from the common fields in the second physical document; and,
if the information from the common fields is substantially identical, displaying an indication that the first physical document matches the second physical document; and
if the information from the common fields is not substantially identical, displaying an indication that the first physical document does not match the second physical document.
20. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the method further comprises displaying the information from the common fields that is substantially identical.
21. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the method further comprises displaying the information from the common fields that is not substantially identical.
22. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the first physical document and the second physical document are selected from the group consisting of: a driver's license, a passport, a credit card, a benefit card, a military identification, a government issued identification, a non-government issued identification, and a bank card.
23. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein at least some of the information obtained from the first physical document and the second physical document is obtained from a magnetic stripe.
24. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein at least some of the information obtained from the first physical document and the second physical document is obtained from a bar code.
25. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein at least some of the information obtained from the first physical document and the second physical document is obtained from one of a smart card or a machine readable zone.
