METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR STATE/MODE TRANSITIONING
A user equipment implements a method of processing indication messages, such as SCRI (signalling connection release indication) messages. The user equipment (UE) maintains a count of how many indication messages with a cause set have been sent by the UE while in at least one radio resource control (RRC) state. Various conditions are provided for resetting the count. These include receiving packet switched (PS) data by the UE and transmitting packet switched (PS) data.
1 . A method performed by a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:
at the UE, maintaining a count of how many indication messages with a cause set have been sent by the UE while in at least one radio resource control (RRC) state;
receiving packet switched (PS) data by the UE;
resetting the count by the UE responsive to receiving the PS data.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication messages comprise signalling connection release indication messages.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication messages in the count each have a cause set to “UE Requested PS Data session end”.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the cause is set to “UE Requested PS Data session end”.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one RRC state comprises a CELL_PCH state or a URA_PCH state.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein:
maintaining a count comprises using a counter.
7 . A user equipment (UE) configured to:
maintain a count of how many indication messages with a cause set have been sent by the UE while in at least one radio resource control (RRC) state;
receive packet switched (PS) data;
reset the count responsive to receiving the PS data.
8 . The user equipment of claim 7 , wherein the indication messages comprise signalling connection release indication messages.
9 . The user equipment (UE) of claim 7 , wherein the indication messages in the count each have a cause set to “UE Requested PS Data session end”.
10 . The user equipment of claim 7 , wherein the cause is set to “UE Requested PS Data session end”.
11 . The user equipment of claim 7 , wherein the at least one RRC state comprises a CELL_PCH state or a URA_PCH state.
12 . The user equipment of claim 7 , further comprising a counter for maintaining the count.
13 . A method performed by a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:
at the UE, maintaining a count of how many indication messages with a cause set have been sent by the UE while in at least one radio resource control (RRC) state;
transmitting packet switched (PS) data;
resetting the count by the UE responsive to transmitting the PS data.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the user equipment transmits PS data on radio bearer 5 (RB5) or upwards.
15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the transmission of PS data comprises uplink radio link control (RLC) data protocol data units (PDUs).
16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the indication messages comprise signalling connection release indication messages.
17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the indication messages in the count each have a cause set to “UE Requested PS Data session end”.
18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the cause is set to “UE Requested PS Data session end”.
19 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the at least one RRC state comprises a CELL_PCH state or a URA_PCH state.
20 . The method of claim 12 , wherein maintaining a count comprises using a counter.
21 . A user equipment (UE) configured to:
maintain a count of how many indication messages with a cause set have been sent by the UE while in at least one radio resource control (RRC) state;
transmit packet switched (PS) data;
reset the count by the UE responsive to the transmission of PS data.
22 . The user equipment of claim 21 , further configured to transmit PS data on radio bearer 5 (RB5) or upwards.
23 . The user equipment of claim 21 , wherein the transmission of PS data comprises uplink radio link control (RLC) data protocol data units (PDUs).
24 . The user equipment of claim 21 , wherein the indication messages comprise signalling connection release indication messages.
25 . The user equipment (UE) of claim 21 , wherein the indication messages in the count each have a cause set to “UE Requested PS Data session end”.
26 . The user equipment of claim 21 , wherein the cause is set to “UE Requested PS Data session end”.
27 . The user equipment of claim 21 , wherein the at least one RRC state comprises a CELL_PCH state or a URA_PCH state.
28 . The user equipment of claim 21 , further comprising a counter for maintaining the count.
