Glove having enhanced thumb crotch padding

1. A glove comprising:

a hand portion including a dorsal region and a palmer region;

a finger portion extending outwardly from the hand portion;

a thumb portion extending outwardly from the hand portion; and

a thumb crotch disposed intermediate the thumb portion and the finger portion;

wherein an exterior surface of the dorsal region is made from a first material and at least a portion of an exterior surface of the thumb crotch is made from a second material that is different from the first material,

wherein the thumb crotch includes a generally triangularly-shaped pad,

wherein the pad includes a top wall having an arcuate section, and

wherein the arcuate section extends between the finger portion and the thumb portion.

2. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the second material has a higher coefficient of friction than the first material.

3. The glove of claim 2 , wherein the first material is one of leather, composite leather and vinyl, and the second material is a microfiber fabric.

4. The glove of claim 2 , wherein each of the finger portion and the thumb portion has an inner side that is adjacent the palmer region, and the inner sides are at least partially made from the second material.

5. The glove of claim 4 , wherein at least an area of the palmer region adjacent the thumb crotch is made from the second material.

6. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the pad includes a side wall disposed in the dorsal region of the glove.

7. The glove of claim 6 , wherein both the top wall and the side wall of the pad are made from the second material.

8. The glove of claim 6 , wherein the top wall is at least semi-rigid.

9. The glove of claim 6 , wherein the top wall resists compression of the side wall.

10. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the top wall of the pad is made from the second material.

11. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the pad is covered by the second material.

12. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the top wall is rigid.

13. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the top wall further includes a substantially planar section that extends outwardly from the arcuate section and toward the finger portion.

14. The glove of claim 13 , wherein the substantially planar section is disposed proximate a base of a finger member of the finger portion, where the finger member is adapted to receive an index finger therein when the glove is worn on the hand.

15. The glove of claim 14 , wherein the finger member extends longitudinally outwardly away from the hand portion, and the substantially planar section of the top wall is disposed substantially at a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the finger member.

16. The glove of claim 15 , wherein the substantially planar section of the top wall is fixedly secured to a section of the finger member.

17. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the arcuate section of the pad is concave and is adapted to cradle a handle of a sporting implement therein.

18. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the arcuate section of the pad has a radius of curvature and the radius of curvature is complementary to a curvature of an exterior wall of a handle of a sporting implement that the top wall is adapted to cradle.

19. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the pad includes a side wall that extends from an edge of the top wall and downwardly for a distance along the dorsal region of the glove, and wherein an apex of the pad is disposed adjacent a base of the thumb portion, and is disposed opposite the top wall.

20. The glove of claim 19 , wherein the pad is substantially crush-resistant.

21. The glove of claim 1 , further comprising a valley that separates the pad from the dorsal region and from the thumb portion.

22. The glove of claim 1 ,

wherein an apex of the pad is disposed adjacent a base of the thumb portion, and

wherein the pad is spaced apart from any other pads on the glove.

23. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the arcuate section defines a recess in the pad.
