Abstract

Compositions and methods for treating congestive heart failure are provided herein.

Claims (31)

1 - 33 . (canceled)

34 . A method of treating a human patient with congestive heart failure, comprising:

contacting the heart tissue of a human patient with congestive heart failure with at least one cultured three-dimensional tissue,

wherein the surface area of heart tissue that is contacted is 15 cm 2 or greater; and

wherein the cultured three-dimensional tissue is capable of causing heart ejection fraction to increase by 3% or more.

35 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising contacting the heart tissue of said patient with at least a second cultured three-dimensional tissue 15 cm 2 in size or greater.

36 . A method of treating a human patient with congestive heart failure, comprising:

contacting the heart tissue of a human patient with congestive heart failure with at least one cultured three-dimensional tissue,

wherein the surface area of heart tissue that is contacted is 15 cm 2 or greater; and

wherein the cultured three-dimensional tissue is capable of causing cardiac output (CO) under stress to increase by at least about 40% over CO under rest.

37 . The method of claim 36 , further comprising contacting the heart tissue of said patient with at least a second cultured three-dimensional tissue 15 cm 2 in size or greater.

38 . A method of treating a human patient with congestive heart failure, comprising:

contacting the heart tissue of a human patient with congestive heart failure with at least one cultured three-dimensional tissue,

wherein the surface area of heart tissue that is contacted is 15 cm 2 or greater; and

wherein the cultured three-dimensional tissue is capable of causing left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) under stress to increase by at least about 15% over LVEF under rest.

39 . The method of claim 38 , further comprising contacting the heart tissue of said patient with at least a second cultured three-dimensional tissue 15 cm 2 in size or greater.

40 . A method of treating a human patient with congestive heart failure, comprising:

contacting the heart tissue of a human patient with congestive heart failure with at least one cultured three-dimensional tissue,

wherein the surface area of heart tissue that is contacted is 15 cm 2 or greater; and

wherein the cultured three-dimensional tissue is capable of causing left ventricular end diastolic volume (LVEDV) index under stress to increase by less than about 13% over LVEDV index under rest.

41 . The method of claim 40 , further comprising contacting the heart tissue of said patient with at least a second cultured three-dimensional tissue 15 cm 2 in size or greater.

42 . A method of treating a human patient with congestive heart failure, comprising:

contacting the heart tissue of a human patient with congestive heart failure with at least one cultured three-dimensional tissue,

wherein the surface area of heart tissue that is contacted is 15 cm 2 or greater; and

wherein the cultured three-dimensional tissue is capable of causing left ventricular end systolic volume (LVESV) index under stress to decrease by at least about 47% over LVESV index under rest.

43 . The method of claim 42 , further comprising contacting the heart tissue of said patient with at least a second cultured three-dimensional tissue 15 cm 2 in size or greater.

44 . A method of treating a human patient with congestive heart failure, comprising:

contacting the heart tissue of a human patient with congestive heart failure with at least one cultured three-dimensional tissue,

wherein the surface area of heart tissue that is contacted is 15 cm 2 or greater; and

wherein the cultured three-dimensional tissue is capable of causing systolic wall thickening under stress to increase by at least about 60% over systolic wall thickening under rest.

45 . The method of claim 44 , further comprising contacting the heart tissue of said patient with at least a second cultured three-dimensional tissue 15 cm 2 in size or greater.
