Abstract

An alarm system controller is provided, having a packet data network interface; a security alarm system interface configured to communicate with security alarm sensors; and a controller configured to receive at least one input from the security alarm system interface, to process the at least one input to determine an alarm condition, and to communicate the alarm condition and a markup language interface through the packet data network interface. The packet data network interface may communicate with the Internet. An environmental control system interface may also be provided to communicate with an environmental control system and to communicate the markup language interface through the packet data network interface, wherein the packet data network interface is configured to control the environmental control system. The markup language interface may be, for example HTML or XML.

Claims (35)

1. An alarm system controller comprising:

(a) a packet data network interface port;

(b) a security alarm system interface port configured to communicate with security alarm sensors; and

(c) a controller configured to receive at least one input from the security alarm system interface port, to process the at least one input to determine an alarm condition, and to communicate the alarm condition within information defining a markup language interface through the packet data network interface port.

2. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , wherein the packet data network interface port is configured to communicate with the Internet.

3. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , further comprising an environmental control system interface port configured to communicate the information defining the markup language interface with an environmental control system through the packet data network interface port, wherein the information defining the markup language interface is adapted to automatically control the environmental control system.

4. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , wherein the information defining the markup language interface comprises XML.

5. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , wherein the information defining the markup language interface comprises HTML.

6. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to support execution of JAVA code.

7. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to execute a real time operating system.

8. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to communicate with a browser human user interface using the information defining the markup language interface.

9. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to automatically communicate with an automated device using the information defining the markup language interface.

10. The alarm system controller according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to communicate digital voice communications through the packet data network interface port.

11. A method for controlling an alarm system, comprising:

providing a packet data network interface port;

communicating, by an automated controller, with security alarm sensors through a security alarm system interface port;

receiving, by the automated controller, at least one input from the security alarm system interface port;

processing, by the automated controller, the at least one input to determine an alarm condition; and

communicating, by the automated controller, information defining a markup language interface comprising the alarm condition through the packet data network interface port.

12. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the packet data network interface port is configured to communicate with the Internet.

13. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising communicating information defining an environmental system control markup language interface through the packet data network interface port, for controlling an environmental control system.

14. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the information defining the markup language interface comprises XML.

15. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the information defining the markup language interface comprises HTML.

16. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising communicating with a browser human user interface using the information defining the markup language interface.

17. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising communicating with an automated device using the information defining the markup language interface.

18. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising communicating digital voice communications through the packet data network interface port.

19. A controller for an alarm system, comprising:

a security alarm system interface port configured to communicate with security alarm sensors;

a packet data network interface port; and

a controller configured:

to act as an embedded web server which communicates information defining a markup language interface through the packet data network interface port,

to receive at least one input from the security alarm system interface port,

to process the at least one input to determine an alarm condition, and

to communicate the alarm condition through the packet data network interface port within the information defining the markup language interface.

20. The controller according to claim 19 , wherein the information defining the markup language interface comprises HTML, and the controller is further configured to communicate with a browser human user interface using the information defining the markup language interface, and the security alarm system interface port comprises a wireless interface port configured to communicate with security alarm sensors.
