Abstract

A liquid crystal display panel includes: a thin film transistor array substrate having a gate line and a data line provided on the substrate; a gate insulating film between the gate line and the data line; a thin film transistor having a source electrode, a drain electrode and a gate electrode; a pixel electrode; a protective film for protecting the thin film transistor; a plurality of pads; a transparent electrode pattern formed on the data line, source electrode and drain electrode; and a color filter array substrate joined to the thin film transistor array substrate so that the color filter substrate does not overlap the pad area of the thin film transistor array substrate, wherein at least one of the gate insulating film and protective film in the pad area is etched using the color filter array substrate as a mask to expose at least one of the plurality of pads.

Claims (21)

a gate insulating film between the gate line and the data line on the thin film transistor array substrate;

a thin film transistor provided adjacent to the crossing of the gate line and the data line on the thin film transistor array substrate, the thin film transistor having a source, drain and gate electrodes;

a pixel electrode connected to and directly contacting the drain electrode of the thin film transistor on the thin film transistor array substrate;

a protective film for protecting the thin film transistor on the thin film transistor array substrate; a plurality of pads respectively connected to one of the gate line and the data line in a pad area of the thin film transistor array substrate;

a transparent electrode pattern formed on the data line, source electrode and drain electrode of the thin film transistor array substrate; and

a color filter array substrate joined to the thin film transistor array substrate so that the color filter substrate does not overlap the pad area of the thin film transistor array substrate.

2. The liquid crystal display panel as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the plurality of pads includes:

a gate pad connected to the gate line and exposed through a first contact hole passing through the gate insulating film and the protective film; and

a data pad having a lower data pad electrode connected to the data line and an upper data pad electrode connected to the lower data pad electrode and exposed through a second contact hole through the protective film.

3. The liquid crystal display panel as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the plurality of pads includes:

a gate pad having a lower gate pad electrode connected to the gate line, and an upper gate pad electrode connected to the lower gate pad electrode and exposed through a first contact hole through the gate insulating film and the protective film; and

a data pad having a lower data pad electrode connected to the data line and an upper data pad electrode connected to the lower data pad electrode and exposed through a second contact hole passing through the protective film.

4. The liquid crystal display panel as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the plurality of pads includes:

a gate pad having a lower gate pad electrode connected to the gate line and an upper gate pad electrode connected to the lower gate pad electrode and exposed through a first contact hole through the protective film; and

a data pad having a lower data pad electrode connected to the data line and an upper data pad electrode connected to the lower data pad electrode and exposed through a second contact hole passing through the protective film.

5. The liquid crystal display panel as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising: a storage capacitor on the thin film transistor array substrate defined by a storage electrode overlapping the gate line with the gate insulating film and a semiconductor pattern between the storage electrode and the gate line, wherein the storage electrode is connected to the pixel electrode.

6. The liquid crystal display panel as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the gate electrode is connected to the gate line, the source electrode is connected to the data line, the drain electrode is connected to the pixel electrode, and a semiconductor pattern for forming a channel is between the source electrode and the drain electrode.

7. The liquid crystal display panel as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the pixel electrode directly contacts a lower substrate of the thin film transistor array substrate by patterning the gate insulating film.
