METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR VISUAL BIOMETRIC DATA CAPTURE
A method and apparatus for visual biometric data capture are provided. The apparatus includes in interactive head-mounted eyepiece worn by a user that includes an optical assembly through which a user views a surrounding environment and displayed content. The optical assembly comprises a corrective element that corrects the user's view of the surrounding environment and an integrated processor for handling content to the user. An integrated optical sensor captures visual biometric data when the eyepiece is positioned so that a nearby individual is proximate to the eyepiece. Visual biometric data is captured using the eyepiece and is transmitted to a remote processing facility for interpretation. The remote processing facility interprets the captured visual biometric data and generates display content based on the interpretation. This display content is delivered to the eyepiece and displayed to the user.
1 . An apparatus for visual biometric data capture, comprising:
an interactive head-mounted eyepiece worn by a user, wherein the eyepiece includes an optical assembly through which the user views a surrounding environment and displayed content, wherein the optical assembly comprises a corrective element that corrects the user's view of the surrounding environment, an integrated processor for handling content for display to the user, and an integrated image source for introducing the content to the optical assembly, an integrated optical sensor assembly for capturing visual biometric data; and
an integrated communications facility that transmits the captured visual biometric data to a facility that stores the visual biometric data in a biometric data database, interprets the visual biometric data, generates display content based on the captured visual biometric data, and the interpretation, and delivers the display content to the eyepiece.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the integrated optical sensor includes a camera mounted on the eyepiece for obtaining visual biometric images of an individual proximate to the eyepiece, and wherein the integrated communications facility includes a transmission facility for transmitting obtained visual biometric images to a remote computing facility, wherein the transmitted visual biometric data is compared to previously stored visual biometric data for personal identification purposes, wherein a match indicative of a positive identification will result in data being communicated to the eyepiece such that the displayed content includes an indication of the identification.
3 . A method for visual biometric data capture, comprising:
positioning an individual proximate to an eyepiece;
capturing visual biometric data from the individual positioned proximate to the eyepiece, wherein the visual biometric data is a facial image or an iris image;
transmitting the captured visual biometric data to a facility that stores the captured visual biometric data in a biometric data database;
interpreting the captured visual biometric data;
generating display content based on the interpretation of the captured visual biometric data; and
transmitting the display content to the eyepiece for display to a user.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the display content comprises a report of results of the interpretation of the captured visual biometric data.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the report indicates that the individual proximate to the eyepiece has previously captured visual biometric data stored in the biometric data database.
6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the report indicates that the individual proximate to the eyepiece may or may not have previously captured visual biometric data stored in the biometric data database.
7 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the report indicates that the individual proximate to the eyepiece does not have previously captured visual biometric data stored in the biometric data database.
8 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the report requests the user to capture additional biometric data, wherein the biometric data requested if of a different type.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the additional biometric data requested is an iris image and an audio sample.
10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the additional biometric data requested is a facial image or an iris image or an audio sample.
11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the additional biometric data requested is a facial image and an audio sample.
12 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the additional biometric data requested is an iris image and a facial image.
