Abstract

A method of performing audio synthesis is disclosed. An audio event is input to an audio algorithm along with associated parameters including source sample data. An interpolation function is provided and the source sample data are interpolated to generate one or more interpolated samples based on the source sample data. A filter function is provided and at least one of the interpolated samples is filtered to generate a filtered sample. A gain function is provided and the filtered sample is processed to generate a gained sample. At least one of the interpolation, filter, and gain functions include outputting an earlier-calculated value along with an estimated difference value in lieu of calculating a new value.

Claims (16)

1. A method of performing audio synthesis, wherein an audio event is input to an audio algorithm along with associated parameters comprising source sample data, and wherein one or more samples are output by the audio algorithm, the method comprising the steps of:

providing an interpolation function wherein the source sample data is interpolated to generate one or more interpolated samples based on the source sample data;

providing a filter function wherein at least one of the interpolated samples is filtered to generate a filtered sample;

providing a gain function wherein the filtered sample is processed to generate a gained sample;

wherein at least one of the interpolation, filter, and gain functions further comprises outputting an earlier-calculated value along with an estimated difference value in lieu of calculating a new value.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the earlier-calculated value is output along with an estimated difference value more than 40 times per millisecond.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the earlier-calculated value is output along with an estimated difference value less than 1 time per millisecond.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least two of the interpolation, filter, and gain functions further comprise outputting an earlier-calculated value along with an estimated difference value in lieu of calculating a new value.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the gain function generates two or more channels of sound to create a multi-channel field, and wherein the gain function raises an amplitude of each of the channels with differing gain values.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio event is a MIDI event.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the MIDI event is a NOTE ON command.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the associated parameters comprise wave files.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the associated parameters comprise parameter data compatible with the Downloadable Sounds Specification (DLS) published by the MIDI Manufacturers Association.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio synthesis is performed based on data from a music data file generated at a first node.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the audio synthesis is performed based on data from a music data file modified at a second node.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the source sample data is loaded from a soundbank comprised of two or more levels.
