Abstract

Methods, systems, and products improve healthcare of patients. An electronic patient chart is retrieved and displayed at a patient room computer system. The electronic patient chart is also displayed at a remotely-located primary computer system, such as a nurse's station or other monitoring party. The patient room computer system is linked to the remotely-located primary computer system such that updates to the electronic patient chart received at the patient room computer system are also updated at the primary computer system to permit monitoring.

Claims (53)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a mobile device, a wireless room identification information signal transmitted from a transmitter, the wireless room identification information signal specifying information that identifies a room number assigned to the room and a wireless network;

communicating, by the mobile device, with a remotely-located computer system via the wireless network;

automatically transmitting, from the mobile device, a request via the wireless network after a detection of the wireless network, the request specifying the room number and requesting an electronic patient chart associated with the room number;

receiving, by the mobile device, the electronic patient chart, the electronic patient chart received in response to the request specifying the room number;

automatically generating, by the mobile device, a first display of the electronic patient chart in response to receipt of the electronic patient chart;

generating, at the remotely-located computer system, a second display of the electronic patient chart;

linking, by the mobile device, the first display of the electronic patient chart with the second display of the electronic patient chart by the remotely-located computer system such that the electronic patient chart is displayed by both the mobile device and by the remotely-located computer system;

receiving, at the mobile device, updated information entered into the electronic patient chart displayed by the mobile device; and

updating the second display of the electronic patient chart at the remotely-located computer system with the updated information to permit remote monitoring of changes to the electronic patient chart made at the mobile device.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising associating the electronic patient chart to the room number.

3. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising associating the electronic patient chart to a patient.

4. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising receiving the request for the electronic patient chart.

5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising associating the transceiver to the room number.

6. A system, comprising:

a hardware processor; and

a memory device, the memory device storing code, the code when executed causing the hardware processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving a wireless signal broadcast from a transmitter associated with a room, the wireless signal comprising information that identifies a wireless network and a room number assigned to the room;

recognizing the wireless signal as entry into the room;

communicating via the wireless network with a remotely-located computer system;

automatically transmitting, in response to detection of the wireless network, a request via the wireless network, the request specifying the room number and requesting an electronic patient chart associated with the room number;

querying an electronic database for the room number, the electronic database electronically associating electronic patient charts and room numbers including an electronic association between the electronic patient chart and the room number;

retrieving the electronic patient chart having the electronic association with the room number specified in the request;

routing the electronic patient chart from the remotely-located computer system to the transmitter for transmission via the wireless network;

receiving the electronic patient chart sent via the wireless network in response to the request specifying the room number;

automatically generating a first display of the electronic patient chart in response to receipt of the electronic patient chart;

establishing a monitoring link to the remotely-located computer system;

linking the first display of the electronic patient chart with a second display at the remotely-located computer system;

receiving updated information input into the electronic patient chart;

sending the updated information to the remotely-located computer system for monitoring updates to the electronic patient chart; and

updating the second display of the electronic patient chart at the remotely-located computer system with the updated information to permit monitoring of changes to the electronic patient chart.

7. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise associating the electronic patient chart to the room number.

8. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise associating the electronic patient chart to a patient.

9. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving the request for the electronic patient chart.

10. A memory device storing instructions for that when executed cause a hardware processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving, at a mobile device, a wireless signal broadcast from a transmitter assigned to a room, the wireless signal identifying a wireless network and a room number assigned to the room;

communicating via the wireless network between the mobile device and a remotely-located computer system;

automatically transmitting, in response to receipt of the wireless signal, a request via the wireless network for an electronic patient chart associated with the room number;

routing the request from the transceiver over another network to the remotely-located computer system;

querying an electronic database for the room number, the electronic database electronically associating electronic patient charts and room numbers including an electronic association between the electronic patient chart and the room number identified in the request;

retrieving, by the remotely-located computer system, the electronic patient chart having the electronic association with the room number;

routing the electronic patient chart from the remotely-located computer system to the transmitter for transmission via the wireless network to the mobile device;

receiving the electronic patient chart at the mobile device;

automatically generating a first display of the electronic patient chart by the mobile device in response to receipt of the electronic patient chart;

generating a second display of the electronic patient chart by the remotely-located computer system;

establishing a monitoring link between the mobile device and the remotely-located computer system;

linking the first display of the electronic patient chart at the mobile device with the second display of the electronic patient chart by the remotely-located computer system such that the electronic patient chart is displayed by both the mobile device and by the remotely-located computer system;

receiving updated information input into the electronic patient chart at the mobile device;

sending the updated information from the mobile device to the remotely-located computer system for monitoring updates to the electronic patient chart; and

updating the second display of the electronic patient chart at the remotely-located computer system with the updated information to permit monitoring of changes to the electronic patient chart made at the mobile device.

11. The non-transitory memory according to claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise associating the electronic patient chart to the room number.

12. The non-transitory memory according to claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise associating the electronic patient chart to a patient.

13. The non-transitory memory according to claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving the request for the electronic patient chart.
