Abstract

A filter element, a safety element and fluid cleaner assembly. The fluid cleaner assembly generally includes a housing having a cover and a primary fluid cleaner section. The element generally comprises z-filter media, arranged in a straight through configuration, and an axial seal gasket positioned to extend continuously around at outer perimeter of the straight through flow construction. The fluid cleaner assembly can have a precleaner positioned therein. Methods of assembly and use are provided.

Claims (56)

(a) a filter media construction having: an inlet flow face; an opposite outlet flow face; and a non-circular outer perimeter;

(i) the filter media construction comprising a coiled construction of fluted media secured to non-fluted media;

(b) a frame member mounted on, and secured to, the filter media construction adjacent the inlet flow face;

(i) the frame member including structure extending over the inlet flow face and abutting the inlet flow face;

(ii) the frame member including a band that extends completely, peripherally, around the filter media construction; and,

(c) an axial seal member extending completely, peripherally, around the filter media construction and located between the inlet flow face and the opposite outlet flow face.

7. An air filter cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the axial seal member comprises an extruded gasket ring.

8. An air filter cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the axial seal member is attached to the frame member.

9. An air filter cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the structure extending over the inlet flow face and abutting the inlet flow face comprises a radially inwardly extending lip.

10. An air filter cartridge according to claim 9 , wherein the lip extends completely, peripherally, along the band.

11. An air filter cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the filter media construction has a racetrack shape comprising opposite straight sections and opposite rounded end sections.

12. An air filter cartridge according to claim 11 , wherein the structure extending over the inlet flow face and abutting the inlet flow face comprises a brace extending across the filter media construction inlet flow face.

13. An air filter cartridge according to claim 11 , wherein the brace extends from the band located at the filter media construction opposite straight sections.

14. An air filter cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the structure extending over the inlet flow face and abutting the inlet flow face comprises at least two braces extending across the filter media construction inlet flow face.

15. An air filter cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the filter media construction has an obround shape.

16. An air filter cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the frame construction is adhered to the filter media construction.

17. An air filter cartridge according to claim 6 , wherein the frame construction comprises a projection extending radially away from the filter media construction and extending completely, and peripherally, around the filter media construction.

18. An air filter cartridge according to claim 17 , wherein the projection receives the axial seal member.

19. An air cleaner comprising:

(a) a primary air cleaner section and a cover removably mounted on the primary air cleaner section;

(b) an air filter cartridge positioned in the primary air cleaner section housing, wherein the air filter cartridge comprises:

(i) a filter media construction having: an inlet flow face; an opposite outlet flow face; and a non-circular outer perimeter;

(A) the filter media construction comprising a coiled construction of fluted media secured to non-fluted media;

(ii) a frame member mounted on, and secured to, the media construction adjacent the inlet flow face;

(A) the frame member including a structure extending over the inlet flow face and abutting the inlet flow face;

(B) the frame member including a band that extends completely, peripherally, around the filter media construction; and,

(iii) an axial seal member extending completely, peripherally, around the filter media construction and located between the inlet flow face and the opposite outlet flow face, and wherein a seal is formed by compressing the axial seal member by attaching the cover to the primary air cleaner section.
