Abstract

An inflatable or gas-filled insulation panel comprises an envelope having two outer sheets sealed together along edges of the sheets and at least one of the sheets has an outer reflective surface. The envelope encases a plurality of internal films that include a polymeric film having a plurality of reflective stripes disposed thereon and spaced apart on the films. Seals are formed along the gaps or areas between the reflective stripes on the films by application of heat and pressure, which causes the films to seal to each other and the outer sheets at spaced apart intervals. A channel is formed between the outer edges of the films and the outer sheets, and a valve, disposed at an end of the panel, is in fluid communication with the channel for the injection of a fluid, such as an inert gas or air, to inflate panel.

Claims (11)

1 . A method of assembling an inflatable insulation panel, comprising:

positioning a plurality of polymeric films relative to one another and a first sheet of laminate material each sheet including an aluminum layer and at least one polymeric layer laminated to the aluminum layer, wherein each film having a plurality of spaced apart reflective surfaces and gaps between the reflective surface, and the polymeric layer of the first sheet facing the films;

sealing the films to one another and to the first sheet at the gaps of polymeric film between the spaced apart reflective surfaces along two parallel longitudinal edges of the films, so the films remain aligned relative to one another and the first sheet during assembly;

positioning a second sheet of laminated material having an aluminum layer and at least one polymeric layer relative to the films and first sheet;

sealing the first sheet and second sheet together along two parallel longitudinal edges thereof between the longitudinal edges of the films and the longitudinal edges of the sheets forming a channel between lateral edges of the films and sheets;

sealing the first sheet and second sheet together along two parallel lateral edges thereof between lateral edges of the films and the lateral edges of the sheets; and,

sealing the films to the first and second sheets and to one another at the gaps between the reflective surfaces on the films, forming seals parallel to the lateral end seals of the first and second sheets.

The method of claim 1 , further comprising inserting at least one valve between the first and second sheets before sealing the first and second sheets together at lateral ends thereof, and simultaneously sealing the valve to the first and second sheets when the two sheets are sealed together at their lateral ends.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the steps of sealing the lateral ends of the first and second sheets and sealing the films together to the two sheets are conducted simultaneously.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising inflating the inflatable panel with air and/or an inert gas.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the inert gas is argon.
