Abstract

The invention relates to a purified antibody or fragment thereof that specifically binds an Aβ protofibril. The invention further relates to a composition that includes such antibodies. The invention also relates to using such antibodies and compositions for treating a patient having of suspected of having Alzheimer's disease.

Claims (12)

1. A purified antibody or fragment thereof that binds a soluble Aβ protofibril comprising an Aβ40Arc peptide (SEQ ID NO:1).

2. The antibody according to claim 1 , wherein said antibody is monoclonal.

3. The antibody according to claim 1 , wherein said antibody is humanized.

4. A composition comprising the antibody as in claim 1 .

5. A method for treating Alzheimer's disease, said method comprising the step of administering, to a patient having or suspected of having Alzheimer's disease, the antibody according to claim 1 .

6. A method for treating Alzheimer's disease, said method comprising the step of administering, to a patient having or suspected of having Alzheimer's disease, the composition of claim 4 .

7. The composition of claim 4 , said composition comprising a purified monoclonal antibody or fragment thereof that binds a soluble Aβ protofibril comprising an Aβ40Arc peptide (SEQ ID NO:1).

8. The composition of claim 4 , said composition comprising a purified humanized antibody or fragment thereof that binds a soluble Aβ protofibril comprising an Aβ40Arc peptide (SEQ ID NO:1).

9. The method of claim 5 , said method comprising administering a purified monoclonal antibody or fragment thereof that binds a soluble Aβ protofibril comprising an Aβ40Arc peptide (SEQ ID NO:1).

10. The method of claim 5 , said method comprising administering a purified humanized antibody or fragment thereof that binds a soluble Aβ protofibril comprising an Aβ40Arc peptide (SEQ ID NO:1).

11. The method of claim 6 , wherein said composition comprises a purified monoclonal antibody or fragment thereof that binds a soluble Aβ protofibril comprising an Aβ40Arc peptide (SEQ ID NO:1).

12. The method of claim 6 , wherein said composition comprises a purified humanized antibody or fragment thereof that binds a soluble Aβ protofibril comprising an Aβ40Arc peptide (SEQ ID NO:1).
