Abstract

A method for providing contextual information regarding semantic entities included in a page of content, includes the steps of: displaying to a user a page of content including one or more semantic entities; identifying the included one or more semantic entities; and receiving input from the user indicating a desire to receive contextual information regarding a specific one of the identified semantic entities.

Claims (34)

1. A method for providing contextual information regarding semantic entities included in a page of content, the method comprising:

displaying, on a display device, to a user a web page of content including one or more semantic entities and having an interface behavior;

identifying, by a processor, a first word and a second word included in the web page of content as comprising a semantic entity based on the search frequency of a first word and a second word in combination, wherein the identifying further includes one of (1) determining a local context to determine the boundary of the semantic entity, or (2) determining an evaluation of the capitalization of words in the web page of content;

receiving input from the user indicating a desire to receive contextual information regarding the identified one or more semantic entity;

entering a contextual mode and automatically suspending the interface behavior of the web page of content;

receiving contextual information associated with the identified semantic entity; and

displaying to the user the received contextual information.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising highlighting the identified semantic entity.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the received user input is received in the form of touch-screen input.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising suspending the user interface behavior of the displayed web page in response to user input comprising a dragging movement.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the semantic entity includes determining that the frequency with which a combination of words is searched exceeds a pre-determined threshold.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the semantic entity includes determining the existence of an HTML tag in the web page.

7. A system for providing contextual information regarding semantic entities included in a page of content, the system comprising:

a processor coupled to a non-transitory computer readable medium, the computer readable medium storing processor executable instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to:

display, on a display device, to a user a web page of content including one or more semantic entities, wherein the web page having an interface behavior;

identify a first word and a second word included in the web page of content as comprising semantic entity based on the search frequency of a first word and a second word in combination; and

identify the semantic entity further based on (1) determining a local context to determine the boundary of the semantic entity, or (2) determining evaluating capitalization of words in the web page of content; and

receive input from the user indicating a desire to receive contextual information regarding of the identified semantic entity;

enter a contextual mode and automatically suspend the interface behavior of the web page of content;

receive contextual information associated with the one of the identified semantic entity; and

display to the user the received contextual information.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein execution of the processor executable instructions further causes the processor to highlight the identified semantic entity.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the processor receives input in the form of touch-screen input.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein execution of the processor executable instructions further causes the processor to suspend the user interface behavior of the displayed web page in response to user input comprising a dragging movement.

11. The system of claim 7 , wherein execution of the processor executable instructions further causes the processor to identify the semantic entity by determining that the frequency with which a combination of words is searched exceeds a pre-determined threshold.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein execution of the processor executable instructions further causes the processor to identify the semantic entity by determining the existence of an HTML tag in the web page.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising constructing a query corresponding to the identified one or more semantic entities.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising submitting the query corresponding to the identified one or more semantic entities to a plurality of search sources.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving contextual information associated with the one of the identified one or more semantic entities further comprises receiving the contextual information from a plurality of search sources.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising prioritizing the contextual information received from the plurality of search sources.

17. The system of claim 7 , wherein execution of the processor executable instructions further causes the processor to construct a query corresponding to the identified one or more semantic entities.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein execution of the processor executable instructions further causes the processor to submit the query corresponding to the identified one or more semantic entities to a plurality of search sources.

19. The system of claim 7 , wherein processor is further configured to receive the contextual information from a plurality of search sources.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein execution of the processor executable instructions further causes the processor to prioritize the contextual information received from the plurality of search sources.
