Abstract

A gastrointestinal implant device includes a flexible, floppy sleeve, open at both ends, that extends into the duodenum. The device further includes a collapsible anchor coupled to the proximal portion of the sleeve. The device further includes a drawstring that is threaded through a proximal end of the anchor, and barbs that extend from the exterior surface of the anchor. The collapsible anchor can be a wave anchor. The drawstring can be used to collapse at least a proximal portion of the implant device. This is useful in removing or repositioning the implant device.

Claims (31)

1. A method of repositioning an implantable device within a natural bodily lumen, the method comprising:

engaging a drawstring on the implantable device with a grasper disposed at a distal end of an elongated member within an inner tube;

positioning a distal end of the inner tube and grasper disposed therein within an interior portion of the implantable device;

drawing the grasper into a distal portion of the inner tube, when the drawstring is engaged by the grasper, to pull the drawstring with the grasper and radially collapse at least a proximal portion of the implantable device;

advancing a retrieval hood over at least a proximal portion of the implantable device when collapsed; and

moving the implantable device within the natural bodily lumen.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein engaging the drawstring further comprises grasping the drawstring with a retrieval hook disposed at the distal end of the elongated member.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising using a fluoroscope to confirm that the distal end of the inner tube and grasper disposed therein, have been positioned within the interior portion of the implantable device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein drawing the grasper further comprises using a fluoroscope to confirm that the implantable device has been radially collapsed.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein drawing the grasper further comprises rotating the elongated member with the grasper disposed at the distal end of the elongated member.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the retrieval hood is coupled to a distal end of an outer tube.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the outer tube is an insertion tube of an endoscope.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the retrieval hood is flared.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein advancing the retrieval hood further comprises pushing the outer tube over at least a proximal portion of the collapsed implantable device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein moving the implantable device comprises removing the implantable device from the natural bodily lumen.

11. A method of repositioning an implantable device within a natural bodily lumen, the method comprising:

engaging a drawstring disposed on the implantable device with a grasper disposed at a distal end of an elongated member;

positioning the distal end of an inner tube and grasper disposed therein, within an interior portion of the implantable device;

collapsing radially at least a proximal portion of the implantable device by pulling the drawstring with the grasper; and

moving the implantable device within the natural bodily lumen.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein engaging the drawstring further comprises grasping the drawstring with a retrieval hook disposed at the distal end of the elongated member.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein engaging the drawstring further comprises drawing the grasper into a distal portion of the inner tube when the drawstring is engaged by the grasper.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein positioning further comprises using a fluoroscope to confirm that the distal end of the inner tube and grasper disposed therein, have been positioned within the interior portion of the implantable device.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein collapsing radially further comprises using a fluoroscope to confirm that the implantable device has been radially collapsed.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein collapsing radially further comprises rotating the elongated member with the grasper disposed at the distal end of the elongated member.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein moving the implantable device first comprises advancing a retrieval hood over at least a proximal portion of the collapsed implantable device.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the retrieval hood is coupled to a distal end of an outer tube.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the outer tube is an insertion tube of an endoscope.

20. The method of claim 17 , wherein the retrieval hood is flared.

21. The method of claim 18 , wherein advancing the retrieval hood further comprises pushing the outer tube over at least a proximal portion of the collapsed implantable device.

22. The method of claim 11 , wherein moving the implantable device comprises removing the implantable device from the natural bodily lumen.
