Abstract

Apparatus and systems for providing environmental lighting are disclosed. An environmental lighting assembly may include a structural element, which may be a tubular J-shaped element or other shape or structure, as well as an LED lighting engine assembly with a removable locking assembly for generating output light to streets, the ground, trees, or other surfaces, objects, or structures. A projection element may be positioned relative to the output light from the LEDs to generate patterns, images, or other controlled light output.

Claims (31)

1. A lighting apparatus, comprising:

a structural element;

a mounting flange element coupled to the structural element; and

a light emitting diode (LED) light engine disposed at least partially within a cavity formed in the structural element;

wherein the LED light engine is coupled to the structural element using a removable locking mechanism including a set-screw, a light fixture body, a threaded adjustment element, and a contact element.

2. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the structural element is configured in a J shape.

3. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a projection element.

4. The lighting apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the projection element is a GOBO element.

5. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the LED light engine comprises a plurality of LED elements.

6. The lighting apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the LED light engine comprises a metal core printed circuit board.

7. The lighting apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the LED light engine comprises a plurality of LED elements disposed on the metal core printed circuit board.

8. The lighting apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the metal core printed circuit is made from copper and/or aluminum.

9. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the threaded adjustment element comprises a threaded cylinder configured to move within a threaded channel of the light fixture body to position the contact element against the light fixture body.

10. A lighting apparatus, comprising:

a structural element;

a light emitting diode (LED) light engine disposed at least partially within a cavity formed in the structural element; and

wherein the LED light engine is coupled to the structural element using a removable locking mechanism including a set-screw, a light fixture body, a threaded adjustment element, and a contact element; and

wherein the structural element is a tubular element having a substantially constant cross-sectional area and the cavity formed in the structural element is a hollow center of the tubular element.

11. The lighting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the tubular element is configured with an oval cross-section.

12. The lighting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the tubular element is configured with a square or rectangular cross-section.

13. The lighting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the tubular element comprises a plurality of segments.

14. A lighting apparatus, comprising:

a structural element; and

a light emitting diode (LED) light engine disposed at least partially within a cavity formed in the structural element;

wherein the LED light engine is coupled to the structural element using a removable locking mechanism, the locking mechanism including a light fixture body, a contact element, and a threaded adjustment element including a threaded cylinder configured to move within a threaded channel of the light fixture body to position the contact element against the light fixture body; and wherein the light fixture body includes a shaped cavity including a gap for allowing the contact element to apply contact pressure to the light fixture body.

15. The lighting apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the shaped cavity includes a sloped floor surface.

16. The lighting apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the threaded cylinder comprises a set screw and the contact element comprises a ball bearing element configured to move along the sloped floor surface to apply contact pressure to the structural element responsive to tightening of the set screw within the light fixture body.

17. The lighting apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the shaped cavity includes a wedge surface.

18. The lighting apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the threaded cylinder comprises a set screw and the contact element comprises an angle-cut cylinder element configured to move along the wedge surface to apply contact pressure to the structural element responsive to tightening of the set screw within the light fixture body.

19. The lighting apparatus of claim 18 , further comprising a second angle-cut cylinder element disposed between the set screw and the angle-cut cylinder element.

20. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the light fixture body is configured to provide a direct thermal path between the light engine and the structural element to dissipate heat generated by LED elements of the light engine.
