EGVII endoglucanase and nucleic acids encoding the same
The present invention provides a novel endoglucanase nucleic acid sequence, designated egl7, and the corresponding EGVII amino acid sequence. The invention also provides expression vectors and host cells comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding EGVII, recombinant EGVII proteins and methods for producing the same.
1. A method of producing sugar from a biomass, said method comprising contacting a biomass with an enzymatic composition comprising an isolated polypeptide having endoglucanase activity and comprising an amino acid sequence that is at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO:2 under conditions sufficient to convert the cellulose in the biomass composition to sugar.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the enzymatic composition further comprises a beta-glucosidase.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the enzymatic composition further comprises a cellobiohydrolase.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the enzymatic composition further comprises another endoglucanase.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the biomass is pretreated with a dilute acid or a dilute alkali solution.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the biomass is selected from corn cob, corn stover, agricultural wastes, grasses and woods, recycled papers, yard clippings, trees, herbaceous plants, municipal solid waste, or agricultural and forestry residues.
