Interchangeable golf club heads with shared shaft
A system of interchangeable club heads sharing one or more shafts and golf bag for carrying the club heads and one or more shafts. The club heads contain a shaft segment to set club length and a coupler to interconnect to the shaft and grip. The shaft contains an opposite gender coupler. The system is very lightweight and much more portable than a conventional set of golf clubs. It also creates the opportunity for players to match club heads with shafts with differing performance characteristics. Additionally, it solves a problem for golfers using long shafts on putters. These long shafts can now be disassembled for storage and transport.
1. A golf club system, comprising:
a first shaft segment that includes a handle end of a golf club;
a plurality of golf club heads each having an associated second shaft segment, each second shaft segment attached to a pin that is conical along its length, the pin having one or more notches against which one or more ball bearings may seat; and
a coupler to couple the first shaft segment to any one of the second shaft segments to form a golf club, wherein each second shaft segment has a length that depends on the golf club head with which it is associated.
2. The golf club system of claim 1 , wherein the coupler comprises a spring that forces the first and second shaft segments together.
3. The golf club system of claim 1 , wherein the first shaft segment has a length that is dependent upon the golf club head attached to the second shaft segment.
4. The golf club system of claim 3 , wherein each second shaft segment has a length different from each other first shaft segment.
5. The golf club system of claim 1 wherein the coupler comprises at least one set of ball bearings to force the first shaft segment to tightly couple with the second shaft segment.
6. The golf club system of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of additional first shaft segments each additional first shaft segment including a handle end of a golf club, wherein at least two of the first shaft segments have different lengths.
7. The golf club system of claim 6 , wherein each first shaft segment has a length different from each other first shaft segment.
8. The golf club system of claim 1 , wherein each second shaft segment is attached to its respective golf club head.
9. The golf club system of claim 1 , wherein each second shaft and its respective golf club head is formed from a single piece of material.
10. The golf club system of claim 1 , wherein the coupler is affixed to the first shaft segment.
11. A golf club head system, comprising a plurality of golf club heads, each golf club head comprising a shaft portion and a cub head portion, wherein the length of the shaft portion is dependent upon the club head portion, wherein each shaft portion is coupled to a pin that is conical along its length, the pin having one or more notches against which one or more ball bearings may seat.
12. The golf club head system of claim 11 , wherein the length of each shaft portion is unique and is different from the length of each other shaft portion.
13. The golf club head system of claim 11 , wherein the shaft portions have one of a plurality of lengths.
14. A golf club system, comprising:
a first shaft segment that includes a handle end of a golf club;
a plurality of golf club heads each having an associated second shaft segment; and
a coupler to couple the first shaft segment to any one of the second shaft segments to form a golf club, wherein each second shaft segment has a length that depends on the golf club head with which it is associated, wherein the coupler has a plurality of sets of ball bearings, wherein a first set of ball bearings prevents the first and second shaft segments from separating during use of the golf club; and wherein a second set of ball bearings forces the first and second shaft segments to tightly couple to one another.
