Abstract

A cable connection assembly comprising a moisture migration prevention component located entirely within a nut component, and a threaded actuator integrated entirely within the nut component of said assembly, wherein upon attachment of the nut component onto a threaded port, the threaded actuator engages the threaded port, wherein upon an initial actuation of the nut component, the threaded actuator axially advances to a partially engaged position and axially advances the moisture migration prevention component, wherein continued actuation of the nut component further axially advances the threaded actuator to a fully engaged position and compresses the moisture migration prevention component to exhibit moisture migration prevention at a location external to a plurality of threads of the threaded port engaged within said connection assembly is provided. An associated method is also provided.

Claims (22)

1. A cable connection assembly comprising:

a moisture migration prevention component located entirely within a nut component; and

a threaded actuator integrated entirely within the nut component of said assembly, wherein upon attachment of the nut component onto a threaded port, the threaded actuator engages the threaded port;

wherein upon an initial actuation of the nut component, the threaded actuator axially advances to a partially engaged position and axially advances the moisture migration prevention component;

wherein continued actuation of the nut component further axially advances the threaded actuator to a fully engaged position and compresses the moisture migration prevention component to exhibit moisture migration prevention at a location external to a plurality of threads of the threaded port engaged within said connection assembly.

2. The cable connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein the moisture migration prevention component is a deformable sealing member.

3. The cable connection assembly of claim 2 , wherein the deformable sealing member is an elastomer selected from the group consisting of: thermoplastic rubber and thermoset rubber.

4. The cable connection assembly of claim 3 , wherein said thermoset rubber selected from the group consisting of: natural rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, nitrile butadiene rubber, ethylene-propylene diene monomer rubber, urethane rubber, and silicone rubber.

5. A cable connection assembly comprising:

a connector body;

a nut component operably attached to a post;

a moisture migration prevention component disposed entirely within the nut component; and

a threaded actuator integrated entirely within the nut component, wherein the threaded actuator moves independently relative to the post and connector body from a partially engaged position to a fully engaged position when the nut component is advanced onto a threaded port;

wherein, when in the fully engaged position, the threaded actuator compresses the moisture migration prevention component to form an environmental seal.

6. The cable connection assembly of claim 5 , wherein the moisture migration prevention component is a deformable sealing member.

7. The cable connection assembly of claim 6 , wherein the deformable sealing member is an elastomer selected from the group consisting of: thermoplastic rubber and thermoset rubber.

8. The cable connection assembly of claim 7 , wherein said thermoset rubber selected from the group consisting of: natural rubber, styrene butadiene rubber, nitrile butadiene rubber, ethylene-propylene diene monomer rubber, urethane rubber, and silicone rubber.

9. A method of creating moisture migration prevention, comprising:

providing a cable connection assembly including a moisture migration prevention component located entirely within a nut component, and a threaded actuator integrated entirely within the nut component of said assembly;

attaching the nut component onto a threaded port, wherein attachment of the nut component onto the threaded port, the threaded actuator engages the threaded port;

actuating the nut component to axially advance the threaded actuator to a partially engaged position, wherein the threaded actuator axially advances the moisture migration prevention component;

actuating the nut component to axially advance the threaded actuator to a fully engaged position to further axially advance the threaded actuator and compress the moisture migration prevention component to exhibit moisture migration prevention at a location external to a plurality of threads of the threaded port engaged within said connection assembly.
