Abstract

A composition for balancing a rotary system, comprising an amount of a thixotropic balancing substance; characterized by an amount of hydrophobic particles distributed in said amount of said thixotropic balancing substance. A corresponding method and system.

Claims (28)

1. A composition for balancing a rotary system comprising:

an amount of a thixotropic balancing substance, wherein the thixotropic balancing substance comprises an amount of hydrophobic particles distributed in said amount of said thixotropic balancing substance, wherein said hydrophobic particles range in size from approximately 1 nm to approximately 100 um, the specific surface area of said hydrophobic particles ranges from approximately 1 m 2 /g to approximately 50 m 2 /g and the amount of said hydrophobic particles is in the range from approximately 1% by weight to approximately 5% by weight.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein:

said amount of said thixotropic balancing substance ranges from approximately 90% by weight to approximately 99% by weight; and

said amount of said hydrophobic particles ranges from approximately 1% by weight to approximately 5% by weight.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein:

the sizes of said hydrophobic particles range from approximately 10 nm to approximately 50 nm; or

a specific surface area of said hydrophobic particles ranges from approximately 2 m 2 /g to approximately 20 m 2 /g; or

both.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein:

the surfaces of said hydrophobic particles comprise a fluorocarbon or a combination of fluorocarbon and silicone.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein:

the cores of said hydrophobic particles comprise a fluorocarbon, silicone, or a metal, or a combination thereof.

6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein:

a density of said hydrophobic particles is higher than a density of said thixotropic balancing substance; or

the density of said hydrophobic particles ranges from approximately 1000 kg/m 3 to approximately 5000 kg/m 3 , or both.

7. A composition for balancing a rotary system comprising:

an amount of a thixotropic balancing substance, wherein said amount of thixotropic balancing substances comprises an amount of nanoparticles in the range from approximately 1% by weight to approximately 5% by weight distributed in said amount of said thixotropic balancing substance, wherein said nanoparticles range in size from approximately 1 nm to approximately 1000 nm,

the specific surface area of said nanoparticles ranges from approximately 1 m 2 /g to approximately 50 m 2 /g and

the surfaces of said nanoparticles comprise a fluorocarbon or a silicone, or a combination thereof.

8. The composition of claim 7 , wherein:

said amount of said thixotropic balancing substance ranges from approximately 90% by weight to approximately 99% by weight;

said amount of said nanoparticles ranges from approximately 2% by weight to 5% by weight;

the sizes of said nanoparticles range from approximately 2 nm to approximately 500 nm;

the specific surface area of said nanoparticles ranges from approximately 2 m 2 /g to approximately 20 m 2 /g;

said nanoparticles comprise a fluorocarbon, a silicone, a metal, a metal oxide, a semiconductor, or a carbon;

the density of said nanoparticles is higher than a density of said thixotropic balancing substance; and

the density of said nanoparticles ranges from approximately 1000 kg/m 3 to approximately 5000 kg/m 3 .
