Abstract

The presently disclosed and claimed inventive concept(s) generally relates to a solid catalyst component comprising a zeolite with a modifier and at least one Group VIII metal alloyed with at least one transition metal. The presently disclosed and claimed inventive concept(s) further relates to a method of making the solid catalyst component and a process of converting mixed waste plastics into low molecular weight organic compounds using the solid catalyst component.

Claims (10)

1. A solid catalyst component comprising:

a zeolite selected from the group consisting of zeolite beta, zeolite L, TEA-mordenite, MCM-22, MCM-36, MCM-39, MCM-41, MCM-48, PSH-3, ZSM-5, Breck-6, ZSM-11, ZSM-12, ZSM-22, ZSM-23, ZSM-35, ZSM-48, SSZ-32, and combinations thereof,

a modifier selected from the group consisting of (a) phosphorous, (b) phosphorous and boron, (c) an additive selected from the group consisting of gallium, zinc, zirconium, niobium, tantalum, and combinations thereof, and (d) combinations thereof, and

at least one noble metal selected from the group consisting of silver, gold, rhodium, iridium, and combinations thereof alloyed with at least one transition metal,

wherein the noble metal and the transition metal comprise between about 0.01% and about 2.0% by weight of the solid catalyst component.

2. The solid catalyst component of claim 1 , further comprising a binder material.

3. The solid catalyst component of claim 1 , wherein the transition metal is selected from the group consisting of titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, molybdenum, tungsten and combinations thereof.

4. The solid catalyst component of claim 1 , wherein the zeolite is selected from the group consisting of zeolite L, MCM-22, MCM-36, MCM-39, MCM-41, MCM-48, PSH-3, Breck-6, SSZ-32, and combinations thereof.

5. The solid catalyst component of claim 2 , wherein the binder material is selected from the group consisting of aluminas, silicas, silica-aluminas, zirconias, clays and combinations thereof.

6. The solid catalyst component of claim 1 , wherein the molar ratio of the noble metal to the transition metal is in a range from about 10/1 to about 1/10.
