Abstract

The double pull body brace comprises a one-piece panel which engages around the torso and overlaps at the front. At the overlap, it is attached to itself by means of a hook-and-loop fastener so that a wide range of adjustment is possible. In the back, spaced cord guides are mounted on said panel. Each cord guide carries a plurality of cord guide lobes. An upper cord is engaged around the upper cord guide lobes, and a lower cord is engaged around the lower cord guide lobes. These cords are separately attached to pull tabs. When donned, the user pulls on the pull tabs to separately adjust upper and lower closure tension of the body brace. When in correct adjustment, the pull tabs are attached in place by hook-and-loop fasteners.

Claims (21)

1. A body brace comprising:

a panel flexibly extending from a back portion to a front portion of a torso of a wearer;

a first cord that sinuously engages a first plurality of non-rotating upper cord guides, and is disposed to cross a first sagittal plane of the wearer;

a second cord that sinuously engages a second plurality of non-rotating lower cord guides, and is disposed to cross a second sagittal plane of the wearer; and

a first pull tab coupled to the first cord and the second cord, wherein the cords and cord guides are operatively coupled to the brace such that pulling on the first pull tab re-adjusts upper and lower portions of the brace about the torso of the wearer.

2. The body brace of claim 1 , wherein the panel is sized and dimensioned to provide an overlapping front closure while being worn about the torso.

3. The body brace of claim 2 , wherein the overlapping front closure comprises hook and loop fasteners.

4. The body brace of claim 1 , wherein the panel comprises a pocket sized and disposed to accept a hot pack and a cold pack.

5. The body brace of claim 1 , wherein the panel comprises a first pocket sized and disposed to accept a first stiffener to reinforce the panel.

6. The body brace of claim 1 , wherein the panel comprises a second pocket sized and disposed to accept a second stiffener to reinforce the panel.

7. The body brace of claim 1 , wherein the panel comprises a hook and loop fastener that interengages the first cord and the second cord to prevent a movement of the first cord and the second cord.

8. The body brace of claim 1 , wherein the first plurality of non-rotating upper cord guides is covered by a cap to cover a base of the cord guides.

9. The body brace of claim 1 , wherein the first pull tab comprises a hook fastener and the panel comprises a loop fastener.

10. The body brace of claim 9 , wherein the panel's loop fastener comprises a plurality of parallel strips of loop material.

11. The body brace of claim 1 , further comprising:

a third cord that sinuously engages a third plurality of non-rotating upper cord guides, and is disposed to cross the first sagittal plane of the wearer;

a fourth cord that sinuously engages a fourth plurality of non-rotating lower cord guides, and is disposed to cross the second sagittal plane of the wearer; and

a second pull tab coupled to the third cord and the fourth cord, wherein the cords and cord guides are operatively coupled to the brace such that pulling on the second pull tab re-adjusts upper and lower portions of the brace about the torso of the wearer.

12. The body brace of claim 11 , wherein the first pull tab is designed to be pulled in a substantially opposing direction as the second pull tab.

13. The body brace of claim 11 , wherein the first plurality of non-rotating upper cord guides and the third plurality of non-rotating upper cord guides are adjacent to one another.

14. The body brace of claim 11 , wherein the second plurality of non-rotating upper cord guides and the fourth plurality of non-rotating upper cord guides are adjacent to one another.
