Client browser acceleration by having server removed and executed script embedded in web page
Web page scripts are managed in a network using a network appliance that intercepts a web page sent from a server and addressed to a client browser; modifies the web page by removing an embedded script from the web page; executes the removed embedded script; and sends the modified web page from the network appliance to the client browser.
1. A machine-implemented method of web page script management, said method comprising:
in a network appliance implemented by at least one processor, intercepting a number of packets sent from a server and addressed to a client browser;
determining with the network appliance that a number of packets received in the network appliance comprise a web page comprising a first embedded script;
modifying at least one said packet in the number of packets with the network appliance by replacing the embedded script from the web page with a second embedded script;
forwarding the number of packets as modified by the network appliance to the client browser; and
executing the first embedded script with the network appliance in response to receiving an indication that the client browser has executed the second embedded script.
2. The method of claim 1 , in which the information received from the client browser comprises an identifier associated with the first embedded script at the network appliance.
3. The method of claim 1 , in which executing the first embedded script with the network appliance comprises transmitting information about the client browser to an external analytics service.
4. The method of claim 3 , in which the information about the client browser comprises information stored by the network appliance about a user of the client browser.
5. The method of claim 1 , in which the second embedded script is smaller in size than the first embedded script.
