Abstract

An electronic display and lighting arrangement for viewing by, and illumination for, a person in a resting position includes: an electronic display assembly including a first carriage movable along a translation axis, a first pivot arm coupled to the first carriage with the first pivot arm pivotable about a first pivot axis, and an electronic display coupled to the first pivot arm; and a lighting assembly including a second carriage movable in a direction parallel to the translation axis, and a light coupled to the second carriage and adjustably positionable by movement of the second carriage. The electronic display is adjustably positionable both along the translation axis by movement of the first carriage, and about the first pivot axis by movement of the first pivot arm about the first pivot axis.

Claims (45)

1. An electronic display and lighting arrangement for viewing by, and illumination of, a dental patient received in a resting position in a dental chair, comprising:

(a) a support member mounted to a support structure,

(b) a swivel and a first pivot arm coupled to said support member by way of said swivel such that said first pivot arm is variably positionable in different inclinations to horizontal, and such that said first pivot arm is variably positionable horizontally by swiveling movement about a swivel axis of said swivel,

(c) an electronic display including a display screen, said electronic display being coupled to said first pivot arm such that said display screen is positionable into a horizontal orientation and such that said display screen is adjustably positionable both,

(i) horizontally, with said first pivot arm, by movement about the swivel axis, and

(ii) vertically, with said first pivot arm, by movement of said first pivot arm between different inclinations to horizontal,

(d) a light adjustably positionable within an overlapping area in which said electronic display is positionable, and

(e) a dental chair for receiving a dental patient in a resting position, said dental chair including a headrest for receiving a head of the dental patient,

(f) wherein illumination by said light is provided for the dental patient in the resting position received in said dental chair, and

(g) wherein said electronic display is adjustably suspendable vertically above said headrest of said dental chair, with said display screen disposed in a horizontal orientation, for viewing by the dental patient received in said dental chair, without said light obstructing viewing of said electronic display by the dental patient.

2. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein said support structure to which said support member is mounted is a ceiling.

3. The arrangement of claim 2 , wherein said support member comprises a carriage, an overhead track to which said carriage is mounted, and an arm vertically depending therefrom to which said swivel is attached.

4. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein said support structure to which said support member is mounted is a wall.

5. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein said electronic display is coupled to said first pivot arm such that said display screen may be positioned into a horizontal orientation, into a vertical orientation, and into orientations between the horizontal orientation and the vertical orientation.

6. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein said electronic display is coupled to said first pivot arm such that said display screen may be maintained in the horizontal orientation while said electronic display is being adjustably positioned with said first pivot arm horizontally and vertically.

7. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein said first pivot arm is connected to said support member further by way of an extension member that vertically extends downwardly from said support member.

8. An electronic display arrangement for viewing of an electronic display by a dental patient received in a resting position in a dental chair, comprising:

(ii) vertically, with said first pivot arm, by movement of said first pivot arm between different inclinations to horizontal, and

(d) a dental chair for receiving a dental patient in a resting position, said dental chair including a headrest for receiving a head of the dental patient,

(e) wherein said electronic display is adjustably suspendable vertically above said headrest of said dental chair, with said display screen disposed in an orientation facing said headrest, for viewing by the dental patient received in said dental chair.

9. The arrangement of claim 8 , wherein said support structure to which said support member is mounted is a ceiling.

10. The arrangement of claim 9 , wherein said support member comprises a carriage, an overhead track to which said carriage is mounted, and an arm vertically depending therefrom to which said swivel is attached.

11. The arrangement of claim 8 , wherein said support structure to which said support member is mounted is a wall.

12. The arrangement of claim 8 , wherein said electronic display is coupled to said first pivot arm such that said display screen may be maintained in the horizontal orientation while said electronic display is being adjustably positioned with said first pivot arm horizontally and vertically.

13. The arrangement of claim 8 , wherein said first pivot arm is connected to said support member further by way of an extension member that vertically extends downwardly from said support member.

(g) wherein said electronic display is adjustably suspendable vertically above said headrest of said dental chair, with said display screen disposed in an orientation facing said headrest, without said light obstructing viewing of said electronic display by the dental patient.

15. The arrangement of claim 14 , wherein said support structure to which said support member is mounted is a ceiling.

16. The arrangement of claim 15 , wherein said support member comprises a carriage, an overhead track to which said carriage is mounted, and an arm vertically depending therefrom to which said swivel is attached.

17. The arrangement of claim 14 , wherein said support structure to which said support member is mounted is a wall.

18. The arrangement of claim 14 , wherein said electronic display is coupled to said first pivot arm such that said display screen may be positioned into a horizontal orientation, into a vertical orientation, and into orientations between the horizontal orientation and the vertical orientation.

19. The arrangement of claim 14 , wherein said electronic display is coupled to said first pivot arm such that said display screen may be maintained in the horizontal orientation while said electronic display is being adjustably positioned with said first pivot arm horizontally and vertically.

20. The arrangement of claim 14 , wherein said first pivot arm is connected to said support member further by way of an extension member that vertically extends downwardly from said support member.
