Abstract

A system for fluid partitioning for chemical amplification or other chemical processing or separations of a sample, comprising a first dispenser of a first polymeric sheet, wherein the first polymeric sheet contains chambers; a second dispenser of a second polymeric sheet wherein the first dispenser and the second dispenser are positioned so that the first polymeric sheet and the second polymeric sheet become parallel; a dispenser of the fluid positioned to dispense the fluid between the first polymeric sheet and the second polymeric sheet; and a seal unit that seals the first polymeric sheet and the second polymeric sheet together thereby sealing the sample between the first polymeric sheet and the second polymeric sheet and partitioning the fluid for chemical amplification or other chemical processing or separations.

Claims (10)

1. An apparatus for fluid partitioning a sample for polymerase chain reaction amplification of the sample, consisting of:

a first polymeric sheet in a first roll;

a first dispenser of said first polymeric sheet from said first roll wherein said first dispenser dispenses said first polymeric sheet linearly;

a second polymeric sheet in a second roll;

a second dispenser of said second polymeric sheet from said second roll wherein said second dispenser dispenses said second polymeric sheet linearly and wherein said first dispenser and said second dispenser are positioned so that said first polymeric sheet and said second polymeric sheet become parallel;

a space between said first polymeric sheet and said second polymeric sheet;

a sample dispenser positioned to dispense the sample into said space between said first polymeric sheet and said second polymeric sheet; polymerase chain reaction amplification reagents;

a polymerase chain reaction amplification reagents dispenser positioned to dispense said polymerase chain reaction amplification reagents into said space between said first polymeric sheet and said second polymeric sheet together with the sample;

a seal unit that seals said first polymeric sheet and said second polymeric sheet together thereby sealing the sample and said polymerase chain reaction amplification reagents in said space between said first polymeric sheet and said second polymeric sheet and partitioning the sample for polymerase chain reaction amplification of the sample, wherein said seal unit that seals said first polymeric sheet and said second polymeric sheet together comprises a first roller with longitudinal projections and a second roller with transverse projections; and

a roller with projections that create indentations in said first polymeric sheet.
