Abstract

Various embodiments provide systems for managing chargeback requests. Such systems comprise a memory and at least one processor configured to: (a) retrieve transaction parameters associated with the previously executed transaction from the memory; (b) retrieve historical parameters associated with one or more other previously executed transaction activities conducted by the user from the memory; (c) compare one or more transaction parameters with one or more historical parameters to identify at least one correlation; and (d) after identifying at least one correlation, transmit information on the at least one correlation to be used as evidence sufficient to support a finding that the user did conduct the previously executed transaction activity with the website. Associated methods are also provided.

Claims (41)

1 . A system for managing chargeback requests, the system comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor configured, after receiving a chargeback request associated with an issuing bank of a user who is a credit card cardholder for a previously executed transaction activity between the user and a website, to:

(a) retrieve information on the previously executed transaction from the memory, the information comprising one or more transaction parameters associated with the previously executed transaction activity;

(b) retrieve historical information on one or more other previously executed transaction activities conducted by the user from the memory, the historical information comprising one or more historical parameters associated with the other previously executed transaction activities;

(c) compare the one or more transaction parameters with the one or more historical parameters to identify at least one correlation; and

(d) after identifying the at least one correlation, transmit information on the at least one correlation to be used as evidence sufficient to support a finding that the user did conduct the previously executed transaction activity with the website.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the evidence is compelling in nature, as defined according to a predetermined standard; and

the processor is further configured to re-present the previously executed transaction with the compelling evidence appended thereto.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more transaction parameters and the one or more historical parameters have at least one common parameter.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein one of the one or more transaction parameters comprise an indicator indicating whether the user has attempted to reconcile the chargeback request with the website directly, and the at least one processor is configured to:

after retrieving the information on the previously executed transaction activities, evaluate the indicator; and

in response to the indicator not indicating the user has attempted to reconcile the chargeback request with the website directly, generate a notice requesting that the user first attempt to reconcile the chargeback request with the website directly.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the processor is further configured to transmit the notice to at least an acquiring bank.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the other previously executed transaction activities comprise transaction activities that were conducted between the user and the website.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein one of the one or more transaction parameters comprises a first location associated with an IP address of a device used by the user to conduct the previously executed transaction activity and one of the one or more historical parameters comprises a second location associated with an IP address of a device used by the user to conduct the at least one of the other previously executed transaction activities, and one of the at least one correlations comprises the first location matching the second location.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein one of the one or more transaction parameters comprises a first location associated with an IP address of a device used by the user to conduct the previously executed transaction activity and one of the one or more historical parameters comprises a second location associated with a home address provided by the user during the at least one of the other previously executed transaction activities, and one of the at least one correlations comprises the first location matching the second location.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein one of the one or more transaction parameters comprises a first fingerprint associated with a device used by the user to conduct the previously executed transaction activity and one of the one or more historical parameters comprises a second fingerprint associated with a device used by the user to conduct the at least one of the other previously executed transaction activities, and one of the at least one correlations comprises the first fingerprint matching the second fingerprint.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the first fingerprint comprises a MAC address of the device used by the user to conduct the previously executed transaction and the second fingerprint comprises a MAC address of the device used by the user to conduct the at least one of the other previously executed transactions.

11 . A method for managing chargeback requests, the method comprising the steps of:

after receiving a chargeback request associated with an issuing bank of a user for a previously executed transaction activity between the user and a website:

(a) retrieving information on the previously executed transaction activity from memory, the information comprising one or more transaction parameters associated with the previously executed transaction activity;

(b) retrieving historical information on one or more other previously executed transaction activities conducted by the user from the memory, the historical information comprising one or more historical parameters associated with the other previously executed transaction activities;

(c) comparing, via at least one computing device comprising at least one processor, the one or more transaction parameters with the one or more historical parameters to identify at least one correlation; and

(d) after identifying at least one correlation, sending information on the at least one correlation to the website as evidence sufficient to support a finding that the user did conduct the previously executed transaction activity with the website.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein:

the evidence is compelling in nature, as defined according to a predetermined standard; and

the method further comprises the step of re-presenting the previously executed transaction with the compelling evidence appended thereto.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more transaction parameters and the one or more historical parameters have at least one common parameter.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein:

one of the one or more transaction parameters comprise an indicator indicating whether the user has attempted to reconcile the chargeback request with the operator directly; and

the method further comprises the steps of:

after retrieving the information from the website as to whether the website has been contacted by the user with respect to any of the transactions the user has conducted, evaluating the indicator by the at least one processor; and

in response to the indicator not indicating the user has attempted to reconcile the chargeback request with the website directly, generate a notice requesting that the user first attempt to reconcile the chargeback request with the website directly.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the method further comprises the step of transmitting the notice to at least an acquiring bank.

16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the other previously executed transaction activities comprise transaction activities that were conducted between the user and the website.

17 . The method of claim 11 , wherein one of the one or more transaction parameters comprises a first location associated with an IP address of a device used by the user to conduct the previously executed transaction activity and one of the one or more historical parameters comprises a second location associated with an IP address of a device used by the user to conduct the at least one of the other previously executed transaction activities, and one of the at least one correlations comprises the first location matching the second location.

18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein one of the one or more transaction parameters comprises a first location associated with an IP address of a device used by the user to conduct the previously executed transaction activity and one of the one or more historical parameters comprises a second location associated with a home address provided by the user during the at least one of the other previously executed transaction activities or on registration, and one of the at least one correlations comprises the first location matching the second location.

19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein one of the one or more transaction parameters comprises a first fingerprint associated with a device used by the user to conduct the previously executed transaction activity and one of the one or more historical parameters comprises a second fingerprint associated with a device used by the user to conduct the at least one of the other previously executed transaction activities, and one of the at least one correlations comprises the first fingerprint matching the second fingerprint.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the first fingerprint comprises a MAC address of the device used by the user to conduct the previously executed transaction activity and the second fingerprint comprises a MAC address of the device used by the user to conduct the at least one of the other previously executed transaction activities.
