Abstract

It is an object of the present invention to provide a red phosphorescent compound having a high emission quantum yield, which is used for producing organic EL elements. The red phosphorescent compound of the present invention is an iridium complex compound represented by the following formula (1). In the formula (1), L 1 is selected from the following formulas (2) and (3).

Claims (16)

1 . An iridium complex compound represented by the following formula (1):

wherein R 1 to R 4 are each independently a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, a cyano group, an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms in which at least one hydrogen atom has been replaced with a fluorine atom, at least one of them is any one of a fluorine atom, a cyano group and an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms in which at least one hydrogen atom has been replaced with a fluorine atom, R 5 to R 8 are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, an aryl group of 6 to 40 carbon atoms, an aralkyl group of 7 to 40 carbon atoms, an amino group which may be substituted with an alkyl group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, or a silyl group which may be substituted with an alkyl group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, adjacent R groups of R 1 to R 8 do not undergo mutual bonding for forming a ring, L 1 is selected from the following formulas (2) and (3), m is 1 or 2, n is 1 or 2, and m+n is 3,

wherein R 9 to R 27 are each independently a hydrogen atom, a cyano group, a nitro group, a halogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, an alkylamino group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, an arylamino group of 6 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, an alkoxy group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, a halogenated alkoxy group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, an aromatic oxy group of 6 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, an aryl group of 6 to 40 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, a heterocyclic group of 3 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, a halogenated alkyl group of 1 to 32 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, an alkenyl group of 2 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, an alkynyl group of 2 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, a cycloalkyl group of 3 to 30 carbon atoms which may have a substituent, an electron attractive substituent (aldehyde group, acyl group of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, alkoxycarbonyl group of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, aminocarbonyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, thiocyanate group or sulfonyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms), an aralkyl group of 7 to 40 carbon atoms, a silyl group which may be substituted with an alkyl group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, or a group wherein at least one hydrogen atom in these groups has been replaced with a fluorine atom, at least one of R 20 and R 22 is an aryl group which may have a substituent, and adjacent R groups of R 9 to R 27 may be bonded to each other to form a ring.

The iridium complex compound as claimed in claim 1 , wherein at least two of substituents indicated by R 1 to R 4 in the iridium complex compound represented by the formula (1) are each independently selected from a fluorine atom, a cyano group and an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms in which at least one hydrogen atom has been replaced with a fluorine atom.

3 . The iridium complex compound as claimed in claim 1 , which has a maximum emission wavelength in the range of 580 to 640 nm.

4 . A composition comprising the iridium complex compound as claimed in claim 1 and a blue luminescent compound having a maximum emission wavelength in the wavelength range of 450 to 490 nm.

The composition as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the blue luminescent compound is an iridium complex compound represented by the following formula (4), and the iridium complex compound represented by the following formula (4) is contained in an amount of 1 to 100 parts by weight based on 1 part by weight of the iridium complex compound represented by formula (1),

wherein R 32 to R 35 are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, an aryl group of 6 to 40 carbon atoms, an aralkyl group of 7 to 40 carbon atoms, an amino group which may be substituted with an alkyl group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, a silyl group which may be substituted with an alkyl group of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, a halogen atom or a cyano group, at least one of R 32 to R 35 is a group of two or more carbon atoms, R 28 to R 31 are each independently an electron attractive substituent selected from a halogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms in which at least one hydrogen atom has been replaced with a fluorine atom, an alkoxy group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms in which at least one hydrogen atom has been replaced with a fluorine atom, a cyano group, an aldehyde group, an acyl group of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, an alkoxycarbonyl group of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, an aminocarbonyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, a thiocyanate group and a sulfonyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, an organic group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms which may have a hetero atom (other than the above-mentioned electron attractive substituent) or a hydrogen atom, and at least one of R 28 to R 31 is the above-mentioned electron attractive substituent.

6 . An organic electroluminescent element having a pair of electrodes and one or plural organic layers including a luminescent layer, wherein the luminescent layer contains the iridium complex compound as claimed in claim 1 .

7 . The organic electroluminescent element as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the luminescent layer further contains a charge transport non-conjugated polymer.

8 . An image display device using the organic electroluminescent element as claimed in claim 6 .

9 . A surface-emitting light source using the organic electroluminescent element as claimed in claim 6 .

10 . An organic electroluminescent element having a pair of electrodes and one or plural organic layers including a luminescent layer, wherein the luminescent layer contains the composition as claimed in claim 4 .

11 . The organic electroluminescent element as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the luminescent layer further contains a charge transport non-conjugated polymer.

12 . An image display device using the organic electroluminescent element as claimed in claim 10 .

13 . A surface-emitting light source using the organic electroluminescent element as claimed in claim 10 .
