Abstract

A system and method of extracting information from electronic data sources that includes generating a list of file names containing the information to be extracted. Each file name in the list is read into memory, the file that corresponds to the file name is read into memory, and the information is extracted from the file by executing a series of programming instructions. The information is saved to an extracted file, and one or more file names in the list is identified to correspond to an extracted file.

Claims (8)

1. An automatic data extraction system for extracting data from a data warehouse housed on one or more computers, the system comprising:

a front end launcher providing a graphical user interface at a user terminal, thereby allowing a user to interact with the system, and loading a master list of records, the master list of records created according to defined criteria for the targeted electronic data, wherein a pull list of target file names is generated by removing invalid file names from the master list of records;

an extraction module operable to launch a data extraction utility in response to a command from the front end launcher, the data extraction utility operable to retrieve data from the data warehouse using the pull list of target file names;

a statistics module operable to monitor and maintain statistical values related to the data extracted from the data warehouse;

a navigation module operable to manipulate a user interface to the data warehouse to retrieve data from the data warehouse; and

a settings module accessed through the front end launcher, the settings module including a mouse configuration module and an external windows module, the mouse configuration module storing mouse cursor movement positions usable in extraction procedures, and the external windows module operable to store instructions for the resizing, relocation, or anchoring of external windows;

wherein the front end launcher, the extraction module, the statistics module, and the navigation module are stored in the form of computer executable instructions on one or more computer readable media.

2. The system of claim 1 further comprising a format converter to convert the data in the data warehouse into a common format.
