Abstract

Implementing an electronic calendar can include accessing a first electronic calendar owned by a first party, accessing a second electronic calendar owned by a second party, and presenting a view that combines at least one existing entry from within each of the first and second electronic calendars. Source information for each of the first and second electronic calendars may be electronically maintained. The combined view may be updated electronically to reflect a change to at least one of the existing entries from within at least one of the first and second electronic calendars. Electronic calendars may be accessed and overlaid without importing events, thus enabling simple updating. Event information may be imported and source or other attributes may be associated with imported information to enable updating and other sorting functions.

Claims (52)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A method comprising:

integrating, using at least one processor, a first electronic calendar from a first source and a second electronic calendar from a second source into a combined view, wherein the first electronic calendar comprises a first set of calendar events, and wherein the second electronic calendar comprises a second set of calendar events;

detecting an update to the first electronic calendar, wherein the update to the first electronic calendar comprises at least one change to the first set of calendar events;

detecting an update to the second electronic calendar, wherein the update to the second electronic calendar comprises at least one change to the second set of calendar events;

updating the combined view to reflect the update to the first electronic calendar and the update to the second electronic calendar; and

enabling presentation of the updated combined view to a user.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein detecting an update to the second electronic calendar comprises detecting that a copy of the second electronic calendar stored at the second source is more recent than a locally stored copy of the second electronic calendar.

23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein detecting an update to the second electronic calendar comprises detecting a modification to a particular event from the second set of calendar events.

24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the second source comprises a remote server.

25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the combined view visually distinguishes the first set of calendar events from the second set of calendar events.

26 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising selectively providing notifications associated with the first set of calendar events and the second set of calendar events to the user.

27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein at least one of the first electronic calendar and the second electronic calendar is maintained by a third party.

28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein detecting the update to the second electronic calendar comprises periodically monitoring the second source for modifications to the second electronic calendar.

29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein periodically monitoring the second source comprises monitoring the second source for modifications to the second electronic calendar each time the user accesses the combined view.

30 . The method of claim 28 , wherein periodically monitoring the second source comprises monitoring the second source for modifications to the second electronic calendar each time the user accesses an application or host system associated with the first electronic calendar or the second electronic calendar.

31 . The method of claim 28 , wherein periodically monitoring the second source comprises automatically monitoring the second source for modifications to the second electronic calendar at a predetermined interval.

32 . The method of claim 21 , wherein detecting an update to the second electronic calendar comprises at least one of:

comparing a version number of a copy of the second electronic calendar stored locally to a version number of a copy of the second electronic calendar stored at the second source;

comparing a revision date of a copy of the second electronic calendar stored locally to a revision date of a copy of the second electronic calendar stored at the second source;

comparing a digital signature of a copy of the second electronic calendar stored locally to a digital signature of a copy of the second electronic calendar stored at the second source; or

comparing the contents of a copy of the second electronic calendar stored locally to the contents of a copy of the second electronic calendar stored at the second source.

33 . The method of claim 21 , wherein detecting an update to the second electronic calendar comprises receiving an indication of an update to the second electronic calendar.

34 . The method of claim 21 , wherein updating the combined view comprises updating stored copies of the first electronic calendar and the second electronic calendar.

35 . The method of claim 21 , wherein updating the combined view comprises replacing stored copies of the first electronic calendar and the second electronic calendar with updated copies of the first electronic calendar and the second electronic calendar.

36 . The method of claim 21 , wherein:

the detected update to the first electronic calendar represents a change made by the user, and

the detected update to the second electronic calendar represents a change made by another user.

37 . The method of claim 21 , wherein enabling presentation of the updated combined view comprises enabling presentation of the updated combined view by way of a web-based calendaring application.

38 . The method of claim 21 , wherein enabling presentation of the updated combined view comprises enabling presentation of the updated combined view by way of a mobile device.

39 . The method of claim 21 , wherein:

the first set of calendar events comprises one or more calendar events; and

the second set of calendar events comprises one or more calendar events.

40 . A method comprising:

integrating, using at least one processor, a first electronic calendar from a first source and a second electronic calendar from a second source into a combined view, wherein the first electronic calendar comprises a first set of calendar events, and wherein the second electronic calendar comprises a second set of calendar events;

enabling presentation of the combined view to a user

detecting an update to the first electronic calendar or the second electronic calendar;

updating the combined view to reflect the detected update; and

enabling presentation of the updated combined view to the user.

41 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the one or more predefined settings comprises one or more settings provided by the user.

42 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the one or more predefined settings comprises one or more settings provided by another user.

43 . A system comprising:

at least one non-transitory computer readable storage medium; and

at least one processor programmed to:

integrate, using at least one processor, a first electronic calendar from a first source and a second electronic calendar from a second source into a combined view, wherein the first electronic calendar comprises a first set of calendar events, and wherein the second electronic calendar comprises a second set of calendar events;

detect an update to the first electronic calendar, wherein the update to the first electronic calendar comprises at least one change to the first set of calendar events;

detect an update to the second electronic calendar, wherein the update to the second electronic calendar comprises at least one change to the second set of calendar events;

update the combined view to reflect the update to the first electronic calendar and the update to the second electronic calendar; and

enable presentation of the updated combined view to a user.

44 . The system of claim 43 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer readable storage medium and the at least one processor are implemented within a mobile device.

45 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the at least one processor is further programmed to periodically monitor the second source for modifications to the second electronic calendar.

46 . The system of claim 21 , wherein enabling presentation of the updated combined view comprises enabling presentation of the updated combined view by way of a web-based calendaring application.
