Method And Device For Scar Management
A device for scar management includes an applicator head including a recess having a rotating means therein, a reservoir containing a silicone composition fluidly connected to the applicator head, and a metering valve fluidly connected to the reservoir. A metered dose of the silicone composition is delivered from the reservoir to the applicator head upon the application of external pressure to the metering valve. The invention also relates to a method for scar management using such device by identifying a target skin area having a wound or scar, contacting the outward surface of the applicator head to the target skin area, massaging the rotating means of the applicator head on the target skin area, and applying the silicone composition to the target skin area via the rotating means.
1 . A device for scar management comprising:
an applicator head including at least one recess having at least one rotating means therein;
a reservoir containing a silicone composition fluidly connected to the applicator head; and
a metering valve fluidly connected to the reservoir;
wherein a metered dose of the silicone composition is delivered from the reservoir to the applicator head upon the application of external pressure to the metering valve.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the rotating means is a spherical ball.
3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the applicator head comprises a plurality of recesses and a plurality of rotating means.
4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the composition has a viscosity of about 3,000 to 15,000 cps.
5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein metered dose is about 0.03 to about 1.0 mL of silicone composition.
6 . A device for scar management comprising:
an applicator head including at least one recess having at least one rotating means therein; and
a reservoir containing a silicone composition fluidly connected to the applicator head.
7 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the rotating means is a spherical ball.
8 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the applicator head comprises a plurality of recesses and a plurality of rotating means.
9 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the silicone composition comprises 95-100% by weight of silicones.
10 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the silicone composition comprises 100% of a mixture of cyclopentasiloxane, dimethiconol, dimethicone, and dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer.
11 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the silicone composition further comprises a sun protection agent.
12 . The device of claim 6 , further comprising a metering valve fluidly connected to the reservoir and wherein a metered dose of the silicone composition is delivered from the reservoir to the applicator head upon the application of external pressure to the metering valve.
13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein the application of external pressure to the metering valve is through a twist and click mechanism.
14 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the fixed amount is 0.03-1.0 mL of the silicone composition.
15 . The device of claim 1 further comprising vibrating means.
16 . A method for scar management comprising:
providing the device of claim 1 ;
identifying a target skin area having a wound or scar;
contacting the outward surface of the device applicator head to the target skin area;
massaging the rotating means of the applicator head on the target skin area, and
applying the silicone composition to the target skin area via the rotating means.
17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the massaging is continued for 10 seconds to 5 minutes.
18 . The method of claim 15 , wherein a fixed amount of silicone composition is delivered from the reservoir to the applicator head before the rotating means is massaged into the target area.
19 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the fixed amount is 0.03-1.0 mL of silicone composition.
20 . The method of claim 15 , wherein said method is performed twice daily.
21 . The method of claim 15 for treatment of a new scar, wherein said method is performed at least once a day for up to 12 weeks.
22 . The method of claim 15 for treatment of an existing scar, wherein said method is performed at least once a day for up to 6 months.
23 . The method of claim 15 for protecting a new scar, wherein said method is performed at least once a day for up to 18 months.
