Abstract

Methods and apparatus for correcting blurred images captured by an imaging device. A method comprising recording image data and recording motion information, transmitting a portion of the image data and/or a portion of the motion information to a computer for processing. The computer may calculate an inverse filter from at least the motion information, and the computer may generate a corrected image by applying an inverse filter to the image data.

Claims (48)

1. A method implemented in an imaging device, the method comprising:

recording image data and recording motion information, substantially simultaneously; and

transmitting at least a portion of the image data and at least a portion of the motion information to a computer for processing; wherein the computer calculates an inverse filter from at least the motion information, and the computer generates a corrected image by applying an inverse filter to the image data.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least a portion of the image data includes all of the recorded image data.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the recorded motion information may include information for more than one dimension and the motion information for only one dimension is transmitted to the computer.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the motion information comprises only one set of coordinates.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving, by the imaging device, the corrected image and storing it with the recorded image data.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising viewing the corrected image.

7. A method implemented in an imaging device, the method comprising:

recording image data and recording motion information, substantially simultaneously;

transmitting the motion information without the image data to a computer for processing, wherein the computer calculates inverse filter information from the motion information;

receiving the inverse filter information from the computer; and

calculating a corrected image using the inverse filter information.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the recorded motion information may include information for more than one dimension and the transmitted motion information for only one dimension is sent.

9. The method of claim 7 wherein the recorded motion information may include information for more than one dimension and the transmitted motion information includes only one set of coordinates.

10. A method implemented in an imaging device, the method comprising:

capturing and recording image data;

transmitting at least a portion of the image data to a computer for processing, wherein the computer calculates an inverse filter from the image data, using blind estimation and the computer calculates a corrected image by applying an inverse filter to the image data; and

receiving the corrected image from the computer.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the at least a portion of the image data includes all of the recorded image data.

12. A method implemented in an imaging device, the method comprising:

capturing and recording image data;

transmitting at least a portion of the image data to a computer for processing, wherein the computer calculates an inverse filter from the image data, using blind detection;

receiving the inverse filter information from the computer; and

calculating a corrected image using the inverse filter information.

13. The method of claim 11 wherein the at least a portion of the image data includes all of the recorded image data.

14. A method implemented in an imaging device, the method comprising:

recording image data and recording motion information, substantially simultaneously;

transmitting at least a portion of the image data and at least a portion of the motion information to a computer for processing; wherein the computer calculates inverse filter information from at least the transmitted portion of the motion information;

receiving the inverse filter information from the computer; and

calculating a corrected image using the inverse filter information.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the at least a portion of the image data includes all of the recorded image data.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein the recorded motion information may include information for more than one dimension and the transmitted portion of the motion information for only one dimension is sent.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein the recorded motion information may include information for more than one dimension and the transmitted portion of the motion information includes only one set of coordinates.

18. The method of claim 14 further comprising viewing the filtered image.

19. An apparatus comprising:

an imaging device configured to record image data and to record motion information, substantially simultaneously; and

a transmitter configured to transmit at least a portion of the image data and at least a portion of the motion information to a computer for processing; wherein the computer calculates an inverse filter from at least the motion information, and the computer generates a corrected image by applying an inverse filter to the image data.

20. An apparatus comprising:

an imaging device configured to record image data and to record motion information, substantially simultaneously;

a transmitter configured to transmit the motion information without the image data to a computer for processing, wherein the computer calculates inverse filter information from the motion information;

a receiver configured to receive the inverse filter information from the computer; and

a processor configured to calculate a corrected image using the inverse filter information.

21. An apparatus comprising:

an imaging device configured to record image data and to record motion information, substantially simultaneously;

a transmitter configured to transmit at least a portion of the image data and at least a portion of the motion information to a computer for processing; wherein the computer calculates inverse filter information from at least the transmitted portion of the motion information;

a receiver configured to receive the inverse filter information from the computer; and

a processor configured to calculate a corrected image using the inverse filter information.
