Abstract

One variation may include a product comprising a top mount for a strut having a first inner strut rod attachment component comprising a metal, a second strut attachment component having at least a portion received in the first strut rod attachment component, a resilient or elastomeric material interposed between the first inner strut rod attachment component and the second inner strut rod attachment component, the second inner strut rod attachment component being constructed and arranged to receive a strut rod. One variation may include a product comprising a top mount for a strut having an inner strut rod attachment component, a first damping material and embedded in a resilient or elastomeric material, and wherein the first damping material has a greater damping property than the resilient or elastomeric material. One variation may include a product comprising an attachment collar for a strut rod, a microcellular urethane covering at least a portion of the collar.

Claims (11)

1. A product comprising a top mount for a strut having a first inner strut rod attachment component comprising a metal and including a radial groove, a second inner strut rod attachment component having at least a portion received in the radial groove of the first strut rod attachment component, a resilient or elastomeric material interposed between the first inner strut rod attachment component and the second inner strut rod attachment component, and wherein the second inner strut rod attachment component is constructed and arranged to receive a strut rod.

2. A product as set forth in claim 1 wherein the resilient or elastomeric material comprises a microcellular urethane material.

3. A product as set forth in claim 1 wherein the second inner strut rod attachment component comprises a metal.

4. A product as set forth in claim 1 wherein the second inner strut rod attachment component includes a collar portion for receiving a strut rod.

5. A product as set forth in claim 4 wherein the second inner strut rod attachment component includes a flange extending in a radial direction.

6. A product as set forth in claim 5 wherein the resilient or elastomeric material covers at least a portion of the flange.

7. A product as set forth in claim 1 wherein the resilient or elastomeric material has a plurality of voids formed therein.

8. A product as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a second resilient or elastomeric material surrounding at least a portion of the first strut rod attachment component.

9. A product as set forth in claim 8 wherein the first resilient or elastomeric material has a greater damping property than the second resilient or elastomeric material.

10. A product as set forth in claim 1 wherein the first inner strut rod attachment component has a spherical shape.

11. A product as set forth in claim 1 wherein the first inner strut rod attachment component has a cardiac shape.
