Abstract

The present invention provides a novel cancer-associated antigen that can be used in the treatment and diagnosis of cancer. Further, the invention provides amino acid and nucleic acid sequence of the novel antigen, binding proteins, and immunoconjugates. The invention also relates to diagnostic and therapeutic methods and kits.

Claims (11)

1. An isolated antibody or an antibody fragment that binds to an epitope on SEQ ID NO: 2.

2. The antibody fragment of of claim 1 , wherein the antibody fragment is selected from the group consisting of Fab, Fab′, F(ab′)2, scFv, dsFv, ds-scFv, dimers, minibodies, diabodies, multimers thereof, and bispecific antibody fragments.

3. A composition comprising an isolated antibody or an antibody fragment of claim 1 with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, carrier, buffer, or stabilizer.

4. An immunoconjugate comprising an antibody or an antibody fragment that binds to an epitope on SEQ ID NO: 2, and is attached to an effector molecule.

5. The immunoconjugate of claim 4 , wherein the antibody fragment is selected from the group consisting of Fab, Fab′, F(ab′)2, scFv, dsFv, ds-scFv, dimers, minibodies, diabodies, multimers thereof, and bispecific antibody fragments.

6. The immunoconjugate of claim 4 , wherein the antibody or the antibody fragment is humanized.

7. The immunoconjugate of claim 4 , wherein the effector molecule is selected from the group consisting of a toxin, an enzyme conjugate, a labeled derivative, a fluorophore, a chromophore, an imaging agent, or a metal ion.

8. The immunoconjugate of claim 4 , wherein the effector molecule is a modified bouganin.

9. A composition comprising an immunoconjugate of claim 4 and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, carrier, buffer, or stabilizer.

10. A kit for diagnosing cancer comprising an isolated antibody or an antibody fragment that binds to an epitope on SEQ ID NO: 2 and instructions for the use thereof to diagnose cancer.

11. A kit for treating cancer comprising an effective amount of the immunoconjugate of claim 4 , and directions for the use thereof to treat cancer.
