Abstract

A device for optically scanning and measuring an environment is provided. The device includes a movable scanner having at least one first projector for producing at least one uncoded first pattern on an object in the environment. The scanner includes at least one camera for recording images of the object provided with the pattern and a controller coupled to the first projector and the camera. The device further includes at least one second projector which projects a stationary uncoded second pattern on the object while the scanner is moved. Wherein the controller has a processor configured to determine a set of three-dimensional coordinates of points on a surface of the object from a set of images acquired by the camera based at least in part on the first pattern. The controller is further configured to register the set of images relative based in part on the stationary second pattern.

Claims (13)

1. A device for optically scanning and measuring an environment comprising:

a movable scanner having at least one first projector for producing at least one uncoded first pattern on an object in the environment, the scanner having at least one camera for recording images of the object provided with the pattern, and a controller coupled to the at least one first projector and the at least one camera;

at least one second projector is provided which projects a stationary uncoded second pattern on the object while the scanner is moved;

wherein the controller has a processor configured to determine a set of three-dimensional coordinates of points on a surface of the object from a set of images acquired by the at least one camera based at least in part on the first pattern, the controller further being configured to register the set of images relative to each other based in part on the stationary second pattern; and

wherein the at least one camera includes a first camera and a second camera spaced apart from the first camera, the first camera and second camera each having an image plane, the first camera and second camera are further arranged to acquire images of the first pattern and stationary second pattern on the image planes.

2. A device for optically scanning and measuring an environment comprising:

a movable scanner having at least one first projector for producing at least one uncoded first pattern on an object in the environment, the scanner having at least one camera for recording images of the object provided with the pattern, and a controller coupled to the at least one first projector and the at least one camera;

at least one second projector is provided which projects a stationary uncoded second pattern on the object while the scanner is moved;

wherein the controller has a processor configured to determine a set of three-dimensional coordinates of points on a surface of the object from a set of images acquired by the at least one camera based at least in part on the first pattern, the controller further being configured to register the set of images relative to each other based in part on the stationary second pattern; and

wherein the controller is further configured to register the set of three-dimensional coordinates to a common coordinate system based at least in part on the stationary second pattern.

3. The device according to claim 2 , wherein the at least one second projector is movable from a first position to a second position.

4. The device according to claim 2 , wherein the at least one second projector includes a plurality of second projectors, each of the plurality of second projectors is configured to be spaced apart from each other about the object.

5. The device according to claim 4 , wherein the plurality of second projectors includes a first projector configured to be disposed on a first side of the object and a second projector configured to be disposed on a second side of the object.
