Abstract

The subject matter discloses a composite material comprising a first component and a second component, the first component comprising an organic element and a thermoplastic element and the second component comprising at least one element selected from the group consisting of vulcanized rubber and tire cords. The subject matter further discloses a process comprising mixing while heating under shear forces a first component comprising organic waste and thermoplastic waste with a second component comprising at least one element selected from the group consisting of vulcanized rubber and tire cords; to obtain a melt; processing the melt, the processing comprises at least cooling the melt to obtain a composite material comprising: organic element; thermoplastic element; and at least one element selected from the group consisting of vulcanized rubber and tire cords.

Claims (41)

1 . A composite material comprising a first component and a second component, the first component comprising an organic element and a thermoplastic element and the second component comprising at least one element selected from the group consisting of vulcanized rubber and tire cords.

2 . The composite material of claim 1 , wherein the amount of the first component is between about 10% weight to weight (w/w) to about 50% w/w of the total weight of the composite material.

3 . The composite material of claim 1 , wherein the amount of thermoplastic element in the composite material is between 1% w/w to about 30% w/w of the composite material and the amount of organic element is between about 10% w/w to about 49% w/w of the composite material.

4 . The composite material of claim 1 , wherein the amount of the second component is between 50% w/w to about 90% w/w of the composite material.

5 . The composite material of claim 1 , wherein the amount of the second component is not more than about 90% w/w of the composite material, the amount of the vulcanized rubber in the composite material is not more than about 80% w/w of the composite material and the amount of the tire cords is not more than about 30% w/w of the composite material.

6 . The composite material of claim 5 , wherein the amount of the vulcanized rubber is between about 20% w/w to about 89% w/w in the composite material, and the amount of the tire cords is between about 1% w/w to about 30% w/w.

7 .- 14 . (canceled)

15 . The composite material of claim 1 , having thermoplastic properties.

16 . (canceled)

17 . The composite material of claim 1 , wherein the organic element and thermoplastic element originate from substantially unsorted waste (SUW).

18 . (canceled)

19 . The composite material of claim 1 , having at least one of the following properties:

Charpy impact of at least 7 KJ/m2,

maximum tensile strength of at least 1.3 MPa,

modulus of elasticity of at least 80 MPa,

elongation at brake of at least 2%,

flexural strength of at least 2 MPa, and

flexural modulus of at least 300 MPa.

20 . A process comprising:

mixing while heating under shear forces a first component comprising organic waste and thermoplastic waste with a second component comprising at least one element selected from the group consisting of vulcanized rubber and tire cords; to obtain a melt;

processing the melt, the processing comprises at least cooling the melt to obtain a composite material, the composite material comprising:

an organic element;

a thermoplastic element; and

at least one element selected from the group consisting of vulcanized rubber and tire cords.

21 . A process of claim 20 comprising at least one of the following:

prior to mixing, subjecting at least organic waste and thermoplastic waste to at least one processing step selected from the group consisting of drying, particulating, mixing and heating under shear forces, to obtain a first component; and

prior to or during the heating, adding at least one reinforcing element selected from the group consisting of bitumen, coarse aggregate and sand.

22 . A process comprising:

mixing while heating under shear forces a first component comprising processed waste with a second component comprising at least one element selected from the group consisting of vulcanized rubber and tire cords to obtain a melt; and

processing the melt, wherein the processing comprises at least cooling to obtain a composite material, the composite material comprising:

an organic element

a thermoplastic element; and

at least one element selected from the group consisting of vulcanized rubber and tire cords.

23 .- 24 . (canceled)

25 . The process of claim 22 , wherein the first component is in an amount between about 10% (w/w) to about 50% w/w out of the total weight of the combined amount of the first component and second component and the second component is in an amount of between about 50% w/w to about 90% w/w of the combined amount of the first component and the second component.

26 .- 27 . (canceled)

28 . The process of claim 22 , wherein the amount of the second component is not more than about 90% w/w of the composite material, the amount of vulcanized rubber is between about 20% to about 80% w/w of the combined first component and second component and the amount of the tire cords is between null and about 30% w/w of the combined first component and second component.

29 .- 35 . (canceled)
