Abstract

The present invention relates to isolated polypeptides having cellulolytic enhancing activity and isolated polynucleotides encoding the polypeptides. The invention also relates to nucleic acid constructs, vectors, and host cells comprising the polynucleotides as well as methods of producing and using the polypeptides.

Claims (17)

1. An isolated polypeptide having cellulolytic enhancing activity, comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 90% sequence identity to amino acids 26 to 253 of SEQ ID NO: 2.

2. A method for degrading a cellulosic material, comprising: treating the cellulosic material with an enzyme composition comprising one or more cellulolytic enzymes in the presence of the polypeptide having cellulolytic enhancing activity of claim 1 .

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising recovering the degraded cellulosic material.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the degraded cellulosic material is a sugar.

5. The method of claim 2 , wherein the cellulosic material is pretreated.

6. The method of claim 2 , wherein the enzyme composition comprises one or more enzymes selected from the group consisting of a cellulase, a hemicellulase, an esterase, an expansin, a ligninolytic enzyme, a pectinase, a peroxidase, a protease, and a swollenin.

7. A method for producing a fermentation product, comprising:

(a) saccharifying a cellulosic material with an enzyme composition in the presence of the polypeptide having cellulolytic enhancing activity of claim 1 ;

(b) fermenting the saccharified cellulosic material with one or more fermenting microorganisms to produce the fermentation product; and

(c) recovering the fermentation product from the fermentation.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the cellulosic material is pretreated.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein steps (a) and (b) are performed simultaneously in a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the enzyme composition comprises one or more enzymes selected from the group consisting of a cellulase, a hemicellulase, an esterase, an expansin, a ligninolytic enzyme, a pectinase, a peroxidase, a protease, and a swollenin.

11. A method of fermenting a cellulosic material, comprising: fermenting the cellulosic material with one or more fermenting microorganisms, wherein the cellulosic material is saccharified with an enzyme composition in the presence of a polypeptide having cellulolytic enhancing activity of claim 1 .

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the fermenting of the cellulosic material produces a fermentation product.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the cellulosic material is pretreated before saccharification.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the enzyme composition comprises one or more enzymes selected from the group consisting of a cellulase, a hemicellulase, an esterase, an expansin, a ligninolytic enzyme, a pectinase, a peroxidase, a protease, and a swollenin.
