Abstract

A method of sharpening blades of a hair cutting device includes providing a sharpening composition in substantially crystalline form, activating a hair cutting device, submerging a working end of the hair cutting device at least partially into the sharpening composition, and viewing the sharpening composition. Sharpening is complete when the sharpening composition is substantially transformed to powder form.

Claims (28)

1 . A method of manufacturing a sharpening composition for sharpening clipper blades, comprising the steps of:

providing a plurality of crystals exhibiting a natural color;

coating the crystals with a dying agent such that the natural color of the crystals is no longer visible; and

drying the coated crystals such that the coated crystals maintain an external color different from the natural color.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of providing the plurality of crystals includes providing a plurality of iodized sodium chloride crystals.

3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of coating the crystals with the dying agent includes coating the crystals with at least one food color.

4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of coating the crystals with the dying agent further includes mixing, shifting, and/or manipulating the crystals to achieve uniform coating of the crystals with the dying agent.

5 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising the step of adding at least one of a preservative and an anti-coalescing agent to the crystals.

6 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of drying the coated crystals includes exposing the coated crystals to at least one of direct heating, reflective heating, and conductive heating.

7 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of drying the coated crystals includes laying the coated crystals on a reflective and/or thermally conductive surface and exposing the coated crystals to a heat source.

8 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the coated crystals are laid on the reflective and/or thermally conductive surface to define a depth between about ¼″ and about ½″.

9 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the step of drying the coated crystals includes surrounding the coated crystals with reflective and/or thermally conductive materials.

10 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the coated crystals are periodically mixed during the step of drying the coated crystals.

11 . A method of manufacturing a sharpening composition for sharpening clipper blades, comprising the steps of:

providing a plurality of crystals;

coating the crystals with a dying agent; and

drying the coated crystals in an above-room temperature environment to increase the brittleness of the coated crystals and to maintain the dying agent coated about the crystals.

12 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the plurality of crystals exhibit a natural color and wherein the step of coating the crystals with the dying agent includes coating the crystals such that the natural color is no longer visible.

13 . The method according to claim 12 , wherein, once the dying agent is coated and maintained about the crystals, the coated crystals exhibit an external color different from the natural color.

14 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the step of providing the plurality of crystals includes providing a plurality of iodized sodium chloride crystals.

15 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the step of coating the crystals with the dying agent includes coating the crystals with at least one food color.

16 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the step of coating the crystals with the dying agent further includes mixing, shifting, and/or manipulating the crystals to achieve uniform coating of the crystals with the dying agent.

17 . The method according to claim 11 , further comprising the step of adding at least one of a preservative and an anti-coalescing agent to the crystals.

18 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the step of drying the coated crystals includes exposing the coated crystals to at least one of direct heating, reflective heating, and conductive heating.

19 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the step of drying the coated crystals includes laying the coated crystals on a reflective and/or thermally conductive surface and exposing the coated crystals to a heat source.

20 . The method according to claim 19 , wherein the coated crystals are laid on the reflective and/or thermally conductive surface to define a depth between about ¼″ and about ½″.

21 . The method according to claim 19 , wherein the step of drying the coated crystals includes surrounding the coated crystals with reflective and/or thermally conductive materials.

22 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the coated crystals are periodically mixed during the step of drying the coated crystals.
