displaying, using said programmed computer, remaining venue representations associated with said search query on said map.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said search query received is for a specific venue located in said defined geographic area.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said search query received is for a venue type located in said defined geographic area.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said search query received is for an event type located in said defined geographic area.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said search query received is for a promotional event or opportunity located in said defined geographic area.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining whether one or more non-matching venue representations are displayed on said map based on said search query received.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said determination is based on at least one predefined association between a non-matching venue representation and said search query.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said venue representation is a logo-based identifier associated with a venue.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein said venue representation is a text-based identifier when said logo-based identifier is not available for a venue.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said venue representation is a category icon associated with a venue.

11 . A computer system for conducting a search on a map having venue representations, said computer system comprising:

a memory; and

a processing device communicatively coupled to said memory, said processing device configured to:

receive a search query comprising one or more characters;

removing one or more venue representations populated on said map for a defined geographic location in real-time as said one or more characters are entered for said search query; and

display remaining venue representations associated with said search query on said map.

12 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium programmed to include instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause said processing device to perform a method of conducting a search on a map having venue representations, said method comprising:

receiving a search query comprising one or more characters;

removing one or more venue representations populated on said map for a defined geographic location in real-time as said one or more characters are entered for said search query; and

displaying remaining venue representations associated with said search query on said map.
