Abstract

An adhesive composition, a process of manufacture and a method of filling a surface having voids with a void filler are disclosed herein. Upon insertion between opposing surfaces or around an exposed surface, the void filler expands into and around the voids, filling surfaces having voids and covering irregularities of concrete structures.

Claims (19)

1 . A method of manufacturing an adhesive composition, comprising the steps of;

(a) mixing a first hydrophilic reactant, a second hydrophilic reactant and a third hydrophilic reactant to form a mixture of hydrophilic reactants,

(b) adding a hydrocarbon polymer to the mixture of hydrophilic reactants,

(c) blending into said mixture of hydrophilic reactants at least one cross-linking agent, at least one plasticizing agent and a plurality of filler particles,

(d) polymerizing the mixture of hydrophilic reactants with said at least one cross-linking agent, said at least one plasticizing agent and said plurality of particles;

(e) controlling the physical polymerization reaction of the mixture of hydrophilic reactants, the cross-linking agent and the plurality of filler particles; and

(f) adding a cross-linked rubber containing core component to the mixture of step (e) to create an adhesive composition.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein controlling the polymerization reaction step comprises controlling the rotational speed of the mixing operation.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein controlling the rotational speed of the mixing operation, comprises controlling the viscosity of the mixture of the mixing operation.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein controlling the viscosity of the mixture comprises controlling the temperature of the mixture of the mixing operation.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein controlling the temperature of the mixtures comprises controlling the moisture of the mixture.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first hydrophilic reactant, second hydrophilic reactant and third hydrophilic reactant are polyethers.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the hydrocarbon polymer is an amorphous polyolefin.

8 . A method of filling a surface having voids and a surface having irregularities comprising the steps of:

selecting a time dependent swelling hybrid material as a void filler that corresponds to a liquid uptake of a plurality of various entrainments up to 150% of the weight of the hybrid material;

inserting a rubber containing core component mixed with a plurality of hydrophilic reactants into the void filler;

providing a source of liquid into the void filler;

expanding the void filler, and

filling the voids of surfaces having voids.
