Abstract

A home automation system and method are disclosed for configuring a device state including but not limited to receiving an input from the client device at the server, configuring the device state in the database at the server in accordance with the input, and sending the configured device state from the server to the client device.

Claims (30)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a server, an input sent via the Internet from a client device, the input requesting a video content delivered via the Internet to the client device;

determining, by the server, a participant identifier associated with the client device, a device identifier associated with the client device, a time associated with the input, and a title associated with the video content;

querying, by the server, a network-based database for the participant identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title, the network-based database having data fields that electronically associate volume settings to participants, to devices, to times, and to titles including the participant identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title;

identifying, by the server, a data field of the data fields in the network-based database specifying a volume setting that is associated with the participant identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title;

identifying, by the server, a flicker in the network-based database that is electronically associated to the participant identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title; and

sending, by the server, the volume setting and the flicker as a message via the Internet to the client device to remotely control an environment during a presentation of the video content.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising streaming the video content to the client device.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising retrieving network-based security system data that configures a security system during the presentation of the video content.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising configuring a speaker during the presentation of the video content.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising retrieving a temperature from the network-based database that is electronically associated to the participant identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising retrieving a refrigerator rule from the network-based database that is electronically associated to the participant identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title, the refrigerator rule configuring the client device to display a refrigerator inventory during a commercial break in the presentation of the video content.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising retrieving a sunrise sunset mode from the network-based database, the sunrise sunset mode electronically associated to the participant identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title.

8. A non-transitory memory device storing instructions that when executed cause a hardware processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving an input sent via the Internet from a client device, the input specifying a user identifier and a device identifier and requesting a video content delivered via the Internet to the client device;

determining a title associated with the video content;

determining a time associated with the input;

identifying a field in a network-based database that associates the user identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title to a volume setting;

identifying a flicker in the network-based database that is electronically associated to the user identifier, the device identifier, the time, and the title; and

sending the volume setting and the flicker as a message via the Internet to the client device to remotely control a viewing environment during a presentation of the video content.

9. The non-transitory memory device of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise streaming the video content to the client device.

10. The non-transitory memory device of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise identifying a rule that is electronically associated with the user and the title.

11. The non-transitory memory device of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise muting a device.

12. A non-transitory memory device storing instructions that when executed cause a hardware processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving an input sent via the Internet from a client device, the input requesting a stream of a video content delivered via the Internet to the client device;

determining a title associated with the video content;

determining a user identifier associated with the client device, a device identifier associated with the client device, and a time associated with the input;

querying a network-based database to identify a volume setting, the network-based database having fields that electronically associate volume settings to users, to devices, to times, and to titles including the user identifier, the device identifier, the time and the title;

identifying a flicker in the network-based database that is electronically associated to the user identifier, the device identifier, the time and the title; and

sending the volume setting and the flicker as a message via the Internet to the client device to remotely control a presentation of the video content.
