Abstract

According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide a reactive display system comprising a display channel, data storage coupled to the display and configured to store pre-determined and reactive messages, a sensor configured to monitor at least one variable of an area within which the system is located, and a controller coupled to the sensor, data storage and the display, wherein the controller is configured to operate data storage and the display channel to display at least one pre-determined message in a first mode of operation, and wherein the controller is further configured to operate data storage and the display channel to display at least one reactive message in a second mode of operation in response to an indication from the sensor that the at least one variable has changed.

Claims (21)

1. A reactive display system, comprising:

a display channel including an electronic advertisement display element fixedly attached to an interior portion of a vehicle;

data storage coupled to the display channel and configured to store pre-determined and reactive messages;

at least two sensors configured to monitor at least two variables of an area within which the system is located, wherein the at least two sensors include a temperature sensor and a motion sensor, the motion sensor comprising at least one of an accelerometer and a gyroscope, and wherein the at least two variables of the area include a temperature of the area sensed by the temperature sensor and a motion of the system sensed by the motion sensor;

a controller coupled to the at least two sensors, data storage and the electronic advertisement display element, the controller including a physics simulation engine;

wherein the physics simulation engine is adapted to simulate a behavior of an advertisement message based on a detected change in motion in the reactive display system;

wherein the controller is configured to operate data storage and the electronic advertisement display element to display at least one pre-determined message in a first mode of operation;

wherein the controller is further configured to operate data storage and the electronic advertisement display element to display, by the electronic advertisement display element, at least one reactive message in a second mode of operation in response to an indication from one of the at least two sensors that one of the monitored at least two variables has changed; and

wherein in displaying the at least one reactive message in the second mode of operation in response to the indication from one of the at least two sensors that one of the at least two variables has changed, the controller is further configured to operate data storage and the display channel to display:

a first reactive message in response to an indication from the motion sensor that the motion of the system has changed and to utilize the physics simulation engine to generate the first reactive message based on a magnitude of the change in motion of the reactive display system; and

a second reactive message in response to an indication from the temperature sensor that the temperature of the area has changed and to generate the second reactive message based on the temperature of the area.

2. The reactive display system of claim 1 , wherein the display channel is a public display channel.

3. The reactive display system of claim 1 , wherein the at least two sensors includes a camera.

4. The reactive display system of claim 3 , wherein the camera is one of a photographic camera, digital camera, and Infrared (IR) camera.

5. The reactive display system of claim 3 , wherein the at least two variables of the area includes a presence of an individual within the area sensed by the camera.

6. The reactive display system of claim 3 , wherein the at least two variables of the area includes a density of individuals within the area sensed by the camera.

7. The reactive display system of claim 3 , wherein the at least two variables of the area includes a proximity of an individual to the system sensed by the camera.

8. The reactive display system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to operate data storage and the display channel to display a third reactive message in the second mode of operation in response to an indication from one of the at least two sensors that one of the at least two variables has changed by a first magnitude and to display a fourth reactive message in the second mode of operation in response to an indication from one of the at least two sensors that one of the at least two variables has changed by a second magnitude.

9. The reactive display system of claim 1 , wherein the data storage is further configured to store the at least one reactive message, the at least one reactive message including at least one of still images, videos, and animations.

10. The reactive display system of claim 1 , wherein the data storage is further configured to store the at least one reactive message, the at least one reactive message including advertisement messages or service information messages.

11. The reactive display system of claim 1 , further comprising a housing, wherein the display channel, data storage, at least two sensors, and controller are located within the housing.
