Abstract

In a lamination core, a punched material strip is wound to provide layers of the core. The material strip comprises a plurality of semi-circle individual strip segments linked by hinge-like carrying webs between adjacent split lines at adjacent ends of the respective adjacent strip segments. Each strip segment has a plurality of teeth defining slots. A segment arc angle of the segment is not equally divisible into 360° and a slot arc angle of the slots is equally divisible into the segment arc angle, so that mated lines of one winding defined by respective adjacent split lines of adjacent are laterally offset with respect to mated lines defined by respective adjacent split lines of an adjacent winding.

Claims (20)

1 . A method for assembling a lamination core, comprising the steps of:

providing a material strip and creating a segment strip from the material strip comprising a plurality of semi-circle individual strip segments linked in series by respective hinge-like carrying webs between adjacent split lines at adjacent ends of the respective adjacent strip segments, each strip segment having a plurality of teeth defining slots there between, a segment arc angle of an arc defined by the segment not being equally divisible into 360° and a slot arc angle of an arc defined by and extending between center-lines of teeth defining the slot being equally divisible into the segment arc angle; and

winding the punched segment strip to form the lamination core, adjacent split lines mating to form respective mated lines, the mated lines of adjacent windings being laterally offset with respect to one another.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the mated lines of adjacent windings are laterally offset with respect to one another by one-half of a segment arc length so that the mated line of an upper winding falls directly in a middle of a segment directly beneath it in an adjacent lower winding.

3 . The method of claim 1 when the core comprises a stator core.

4 . The method of claim 1 wherein the core comprises a rotor core.

5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the segment split lines are lines which are meandering and not straight and have respective interlock portions serving as lamination interlocks.

6 . The method of claim 1 wherein at least one interlock comprising a protrusion is provided in each strip segment serving as a segment interlock locking a top segment to an adjacent bottom segment lying beneath.

7 . The method of claim 6 wherein the protrusion comprises a dimple protruding above or below a plane defined by the strip segment lamination.

8 . The method of claim 1 wherein at least one bolt hole is provided in at least one of the strip segments of a winding.

9 . The method of claim 1 wherein at least one weld notch is provided at a periphery of at least one of the segments in a winding for use in welding the core laminations together after completion of the winding process.

10 . The method of claim 1 wherein said material strip is fed into a stamping die and the material strip is punched with the stamping die to create said segment strip.

11 . A method for assembling a lamination core, comprising the steps of:

feeding a material strip into a stamping die;

punching the material strip with the stamping die to create a punched segment strip comprising a plurality of semi-circle individual strip segments having interlock protrusions and linked in series by respective hinge-like carrying webs between adjacent split lines at adjacent ends of the respective adjacent strip segments, the split lines having a meandering path defining interlocking with one another, each strip segment having a plurality of teeth defining slots there between, a segment arc angle of an arc defined by the segment not being equally divisible into 360° and a slot arc angle of an arc defined by and extending between center-lines of teeth defining the slot being equally divisible into the segment arc angle; and

winding the punched segment strip to form the lamination core, adjacent split lines mating to form respective mated lines, the mated lines of adjacent windings being laterally offset with respect to one another.

12 . A method for assembling a lamination core, comprising the steps of:

feeding a material strip into a stamping die;

punching the material strip with the stamping die to create a punched segment strip comprising a plurality of semi-circle individual strip segments having interlock protrusions and linked in series in a straight line by respective hinge-like carrying webs between adjacent split lines at adjacent ends of the respective adjacent strip segments, the split lines having a meandering path defining interlocking with one another, each strip segment having a plurality of teeth defining slots there between, a segment arc angle of an arc defined by the segment not being equally divisible into 360° and a slot arc angle of an arc defined by and extending between center-lines of teeth defining the slot being equally divisible into the segment arc angle; and

winding the punched segment strip as a helix to form the lamination core, adjacent split lines mating to form respective mated lines, the mated lines of adjacent windings being laterally offset with respect to one another.
