Systems and Methods for Compression Transmission and Decompression of Video Codecs
Embodiments of this invention include computer-implemented mathematical methods to develop software and/or hardware implementations that use wavelet transforms (WT) to pre-process video frames that can then be compressed using a variety of codecs to produce compressed video frames. Such compressed video frames can then be transmitted, decompressed, post-processed using the post-processing methods disclosed in the invention and displayed in their original size and quality using software and/or hardware implementations of embodiments of the invention, thereby producing real-time high-quality reproduction of video sequences. Embodiments of devices that can implement the methods of this invention include mainframe computers, desktop computers, personal computers, laptop computers, tablet computers, wireless computers, television sets, set top boxes, cellular telephones, and computer readable media.

14 . A computer module for pre-processing a video image frame, comprising:
an input to receive a video frame;
a storage module containing instructions for frame pre-processing of a video frame received by said input according to decimated Haar WT;
a processor for processing said decimated WT by retaining low-frequency parts and discarding high-frequency parts; and
an output.
15 . The module of claim 14 , said output operably linked to a video codec.
16 . The module of claim 15 , said video codec selected from the group consisting of MPEG-4, H.264, VC-1, and DivX.
17 . The module of claim 14 , said module comprising a processing apparatus selected from the group consisting of mainframe computers, desktop computers, personal computers, laptop computers, tablet computers, wireless computers and cellular telephones.
18 . A computer module for post-processing a video image frame, comprising:
an input to receive output of a video codec;
a storage module containing instructions for frame post-processing using low-frequency parts of the WT and the last pixel of every row and column of the original image before the WT;
a processor for processing a video frame received by said input and said instructions to re-create a video image; and
an output.
19 . The module of claim 18 , said input operably linked to a video codec.
20 . The module of claim 19 , said video codec selected from the group consisting of MPEG-4, H.264, VC-1, and DivX.
21 . The module of claim 18 , said module comprising a processing apparatus selected from the group consisting of mainframe computers, desktop computers, personal computers, laptop computers, tablet computers, wireless computers and cellular telephones.
