Abstract

A lithium sulfur cell has a cathode including Li 3 PS 4+n (0<n<9), an electrolyte, and an anode comprising lithium. A cathode for a lithium sulfur cell is also disclosed.

Claims (22)

1. A lithium sulfur cell, comprising:

a cathode comprising Li 3 PS 4+n (0<n<9, wherein n is an integer);

an electrolyte; and

an anode comprising lithium.

2. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode comprises Li 3 PS 5 .

3. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode comprises Li 3 PS 6 .

4. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode comprises Li 3 PS 7 .

5. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode comprises Li 3 PS 8 .

6. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode comprises Li 3 PS 9 .

7. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode comprises Li 3 PS 10 .

8. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode comprises Li 3 PS 11 .

9. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode comprises Li 3 PS 12 .

10. The lithium sulfur cell of claim 1 , wherein the electrolyte comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of lithium thiophosphate, lithium lanthanum zirconium oxide, lithium lanthanum titanium oxide, lithium boron hydride, and lithium iodide, and combinations thereof.

11. A cathode for a lithium sulfur cell, comprising Li 3 PS 4+n (0<n<9, wherein n is an integer).

12. The cathode of claim 11 , comprising Li 3 PS 5 .

13. The cathode of claim 11 , comprising Li 3 PS 6 .

14. The cathode of claim 11 , comprising Li 3 PS 7 .

15. The cathode of claim 11 , comprising Li 3 PS 8 .

16. The cathode of claim 11 , comprising Li 3 PS 9 .

17. The cathode of claim 11 , comprising Li 3 PS 10 .

18. The cathode of claim 11 , comprising Li 3 PS 11 .

19. The cathode of claim 11 , comprising Li 3 PS 12 .
