Abstract

Disclosed is a topical skin composition and corresponding methods for its use that includes an extract from Bauhinia glauca , an extract from Rhodendron siderophyllum , and an extract from Circidiphyllum japonicum.

Claims (18)

1. A topical skin composition comprising an extract from Rhodendron siderophyllum , an extract from Circidiphyllum japonicum , and an effective amount of a tyrosinase inhibitor, wherein the tyrosinase inhibitor comprises an extract from Bauhinia glauca , wherein the composition is a cream or lotion.

2. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein each of said extracts are alcoholic or aqueous extracts.

3. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from about 0.001% to about 5% by weight of each of said extracts.

4. The topical skin composition of claim 3 , wherein the composition comprises a moisturization agent, an antioxidant, a structuring or thickening agent, and an emulsifier.

5. The topical skin composition of claim 4 , wherein the composition further comprises a silicone containing compound.

6. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a sunscreen agent.

7. The topical skin composition of claim 1 , wherein each of said extracts are obtained from the whole plant of Bauhinia glauca, Rhodendron siderophyllum , and Circidiphyllum japonicum , respectively.

A method of treating skin comprising topically applying a topical skin composition comprising an extract from Bauhinia glauca , an extract from Rhodendron siderophyllum , and an extract from Circidiphyllum japonicum to skin in need thereof, wherein topical application of said composition treats said skin.

A method of inhibiting MMP-1 or lipoxygenase activity in skin comprising applying a topical skin composition comprising an extract from Bauhinia glauca , an extract from Rhodendron siderophyllum , and an extract from Circidiphyllum japonicum to skin, wherein the composition inhibits MMP-1 or lipoxygenase activity in said skin.

A method of reducing oxidative damage in skin comprising applying a topical skin composition comprising an extract from Bauhinia glauca , an extract from Rhodendron siderophyllum , and an extract from Circidiphyllum japonicum to skin, wherein the composition reduces oxidative damage to skin cells.

A method of reducing sebum production in skin comprising applying a topical skin composition comprising an extract from Bauhinia glauca , an extract from Rhodendron siderophyllum , and an extract from Circidiphyllum japonicum to skin, wherein the composition reduces sebum production in said skin.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein each of said extracts are alcoholic or aqueous extracts.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein each of said extracts are obtained from the whole plant of Bauhinia glauca, Rhodendron siderophyllum , and Circidiphyllum japonicum , respectively.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is an emulsion.

15. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is a cream, lotion, or solution.

16. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition comprises from about 0.001% to about 5% by weight of each of said extract.

17. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition comprises a moisturization agent, an antioxidant, a structuring or thickening agent, and an emulsifier.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the composition further comprises a silicone containing compound.
