Abstract

A set of components that can be used to construct a structurally sound dock are disclosed. The components can be extruded and the components are shaped such that interconnected components provide support for the other components thereby alleviating weak points due to welded only joints. A fascia channel provides additional strength by including structures that improve the vertical and horizontal strength of the fascia channel. HDPE plastic inserts and sheaves provide sound dampening for metal to metal contact points. Other components include a corner connector, a post system and a hinge system.

Claims (25)

1. A dock construction system comprising:

a fascia component comprising a main vertical wall, a lower horizontal support member and an upper horizontal support member cooperatively defining an interior channel that is open at its ends and opposite the main vertical wall, wherein the upper horizontal support member comprises a first horizontal component extending perpendicularly outward from the main vertical wall, a vertical component extending perpendicularly downward from the first horizontal component, and a second horizontal component extending perpendicularly outward from the vertical component in a plane that is substantially parallel to a plane defined by the first horizontal component; and

a corner connector, wherein the corner connector comprises:

a post receptacle; and

two integral fascia inserts, each having a cross-sectional shape substantially similar to that of, and configured for receipt into, the interior channel of the fascia component;

wherein a fascia insert received into the interior channel of the fascia component operates to position an exterior surface of the fascia component substantially flush with an exterior surface of the corner connector.

2. The dock construction system of claim 1 , wherein the post receptacle is configured to receive a post and one or more bushings operable to dampen noise from being generated by the post making contact with the post receptacle.

3. The dock construction system of claim 1 further comprising a post received into the post receptacle, wherein the post has a cross-sectional shape selected from a group of cross-sectional shapes comprising a circle, a square, a hexagon and an octagon.

4. The dock construction system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more cross beams supported by the second horizontal component of the upper horizontal support member.

5. The dock construction system of claim 1 , further comprising a fascia connector component configured to receive and abut the ends of two fascia components.

6. The dock construction system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a post holder component comprised of a post receptacle and two or more flanges, wherein:

the two or more flanges are configured to be received into the fascia component opposite the main vertical wall; and

the post receptacle is operable to receive a post and position it such that it is substantially perpendicular to the fascia component.

7. The dock construction system of claim 6 , further comprising a post that is configured to be received by the post receptacle of the post holder component.

8. The dock construction system of claim 7 , wherein the post receptacle of the post holder component is configured to receive the post and one or more bushings operable to dampen noise from being generated by the post making contact with the post receptacle.

9. A dock construction system comprising:

a first mainframe element comprising a main vertical wall, a lower horizontal support member and an upper horizontal support member cooperatively defining an interior channel that is open at its ends and opposite the main vertical wall, wherein:

the upper horizontal support member comprises a first upper horizontal component extending perpendicularly outward from the main vertical wall, an upper vertical component extending perpendicularly downward from the first upper horizontal component, and a second upper horizontal component extending perpendicularly outward from the upper vertical component in a plane that is substantially parallel to a plane defined by the first upper horizontal component;

the lower horizontal support member comprises a first lower horizontal component extending perpendicularly outward from the main vertical wall, a lower vertical component extending perpendicularly upward from the first lower horizontal component, and a second lower horizontal component extending perpendicularly outward from the lower vertical component in a plane that is substantially parallel to a plane defined by the second upper horizontal component.

10. The dock construction system of claim 9 , further comprising one or more cross beams supported by the second horizontal component of the upper horizontal support member.

11. The dock construction system of claim 9 , further comprising a second mainframe element and a corner connector configured to position the first and second mainframe elements substantially perpendicularly.

12. The dock construction system of claim 11 , wherein the corner connector comprises a post receptacle.

13. The dock construction system of claim 12 , further comprising a post received into the post receptacle.

14. The dock construction system of claim 9 , further comprising a hinge system mounted to the main vertical wall on a side of the main vertical wall that is exterior to the interior channel.
