Abstract

A vehicle configured to carry solid refinery waste is disclosed. The vehicle includes a mobile tank including a plurality of compartments and at least one buffer disposed between each of the plurality of compartments. The vehicle further includes a plurality of manhole openings on a top wall of the tank, each manhole opening being associated with one of the plurality of compartments and being sized to enable an agitator to pass therethrough. The vehicle also includes a plurality of connectors, each connector being affixed to the mobile tank for movement therewith to selectively secure the agitator and a plurality of fluid valves sized to permit an emulsion of the solid refinery waste and at least one diluent to pass therethrough in flowable form.

Claims (19)

1. A vehicle configured to carry solid refinery waste, comprising:

a mobile tank configured for transporting material in commerce, the mobile tank being divided into a plurality of compartments, each compartment having at least one sloped floor wall for enabling the solid refinery waste to migrate by gravity toward an outlet opening in a bottom of each compartment;

at least one buffer disposed between each of the plurality of compartments, the at least one buffer being configured to limit migration of the solid refinery waste between compartments;

a plurality of manhole openings on a top wall of the tank, each manhole opening being associated with one of the plurality of compartments and being sized to enable an agitator to pass therethrough;

a plurality of connectors, each connector being affixed to the mobile tank for movement therewith, and each connector being located proximate one of the plurality of manhole openings to selectively secure the agitator in an associated manhole opening in a manner permitting the agitator to be temporarily affixed to the tank during a mixing operation and to be removed from the tank following the mixing operation; and

a plurality of fluid valves each associated with an outlet opening, and each fluid valve being sized to permit an emulsion of the solid refinery waste and at least one diluent to pass therethrough in flowable form,

wherein each of the plurality of connectors is configured for connection to the agitator in a manner permitting the agitator to be controllably lowered into the mobile tank while the agitator is agitating.

2. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of connectors is further configured to seal an assembly of the agitator in an associated manhole opening to substantially prevent hazardous gas from escaping from the tank to an outside environment of the tank during the mixing operation.

3. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of connectors is further configured to selectively secure a conveyer to the tank in a manner permitting the conveyer to convey delumped constituents of solid refinery waste into each of the plurality of compartments.

4. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the mobile tank is further configured for connection to a pressure control system for maintaining a pressure inside the tank lower than a pressure outside the mobile tank.

5. The vehicle of claim 4 , wherein the pressure control system is configured to evacuate gas from the tank when the at least one diluent is added to the tank.

6. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the mobile tank is sized to contain at least 20,000 pounds of the solid refinery waste, while maintaining a head space for at least 3,000 pounds of diluent.

7. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the mobile tank is sized to contain at least 50,000 pounds of the solid refinery waste.

8. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sloped floor wall of each compartment is conically shaped to enable the emulsion to flow by gravity toward a respective outlet opening.

9. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the at least one buffer is disposed substantially vertically.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one buffer extends from a floor wall of the tank to substantially the top wall of the tank, there preventing the at least one diluent from migrating between compartments when the at least one diluent is added to one of the plurality of compartments.

11. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each fluid valve includes ball valve having a diameter of at least four inches.

12. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each fluid valve is configured to off-load the emulsion with the assistance of at least one pump.

13. The vehicle of claim 1 , further comprising an opening in the mobile tank, other than the manhole openings and the outlets, for sampling the emulsion.
