METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR TREATING LAUNDRY ITEMS
A laundry treatment composition for reducing dye transfer from laundry during a treating cycle of operation in a laundry treating appliance includes a first dye transfer inhibitor (DTI), a second DTI, and a third DTI.
1 . A laundry treatment composition for reducing dye transfer from laundry during a treating cycle of operation in a laundry treating appliance, comprising:
a first dye transfer inhibitor (DTI) comprising a polymer having cationic functional groups and having an weight average molecular weight greater than 200 kDa;
a second DTI comprising a cationic polymer having a weight average molecular weight less than 10 kDa and greater than 1 kDa; and
a third DTI comprising at least one of a polymer or monomer having a cationic functional group or a cationic surfactant having a weight average molecular weight less than 1 kDa.

The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 wherein the first DTI comprises one or more polymers containing cationic functional groups selected from the group consisting of primary, secondary, and tertiary amines and their salts, quaternary ammonium and phosphonium salts, such as poly diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DADMAAC) and poly(acrylamide-co-diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride), polyacrylamide, and polyethyleneimine.
3 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 wherein the second DTI comprises one or more polymers containing cationic functional groups selected from the group consisting of primary, secondary, and tertiary amines and their salts, and quaternary ammonium and phosphonium salts.
4 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 wherein the third DTI comprises one or more polymers, monomers or surfactants selected from the group consisting of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), cetyl pyridinium bromide (CPB), and diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DADMAAC).

The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 wherein the third DTI comprises one or more polymers, monomers or surfactants containing cationic functional groups selected from the group consisting of primary, secondary, and tertiary amines and their salts, and quaternary ammonium and phosphonium salts.
6 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 further comprising an anionic fixative.
7 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 6 wherein the anionic fixative partitions to a fabric surface of the laundry at a slower rate than at least one of the first, second or third DTIs.
8 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 6 wherein the anionic fixative comprises at least one of lower diffusivity than the first DTI, higher molecular weight than the first DTI or a combination of lower diffusivity and higher molecular weight.
9 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 , further comprising a nonionic wetting agent.
10 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 , further comprising an oxidizing agent.
11 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 wherein the composition has a pH less than 7.
12 . The laundry treatment composition of claim 1 wherein the first DTI comprises a reactive functional group selected from the group consisting of a vinyl group, a reactive hydroxyl group, and an epoxy group.
