PRESS FIT STORM WINDOW SYSTEM
Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a storm window having a controlled blowout mechanism. In some embodiments a blowout from wind pressure is controlled by the shape and orientation of a rigid window panel. Other embodiments include a venting portion with the storm window. Other embodiments rely on variation in restorative force within resilient material used to make the storm window.
1 . A storm window system for mounting within a window frame of an existing window in a building, the storm window system comprising:
a rigid panel having a front surface, a rear surface, and one or more edge surfaces;
a rigid panel receiver structured to receive the edge surfaces of the rigid panel; and
a hollow, deformable material disposed along at least some portions of the rigid panel receiver, the deformable material forming a yieldable portion of the storm window system and structured to frictionally hold the storm window system in the window frame when the storm panel window system is inserted within the window frame.
2 . The storm window system of claim 1 in which the rigid panel receiver further comprises one or more yieldable nubs structured to support and retain the rigid panel within the rigid panel receiver.
3 . The storm window system of claim 1 in which at least some portions of the deformable material include friction ribs.
4 . The storm window system of claim 1 in which the hollow deformable material further includes at least one strain relief groove.
5 . The storm window system of claim 4 in which the strain relief groove comprises an area within the hollow deformable material in which some portion of the material has been removed.
6 . The storm window system of claim 4 in which the hollow deformable material has an elongated shape, having a greater length than width, and in which the strain relief groove is formed lengthwise along the hollow deformable material.
7 . The storm window system of claim 1 in which the hollow deformable material further includes two strain relief grooves on an inner surface of the hollow deformable material.
